Not to be confused with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers' song of the same name, CALIFORNICATION is a comedy about the pleasures and pitfalls of living la vida loca. David Duchovny (in his first TV series since THE X-FILES) slips comfortably into the role of Hank Moody, a novelist with a drink and drug problem and a penchant for beautiful women. As if Hank's life wasn't complicated enough, he's also got his daughter and ex-girlfriend vying for his attention, a bad case of writer's block, and a seeming inability to resist the many temptations Los Angeles has to offer. The show's second series is presented here in its entirety.

Bit of a let down after the excellent 1st series

serendipityneverland from from Watford, 28th July, 2009

I really enjoyed the first series, and really expected more of the same. Which is basically what you get. The problem being whilst the story moves on, you get the feeling that all concerned are just on autopilot, hence a sense of disappointment. That said it still is enjoyable fun. However been warned if you have not seen this before it can be crude and have sexual and drug scenes descriptions. Still fun to kick of your heels to.

sex drugs and rock'n'roll

pertwee1 from , 14th August, 2009

Where to start with this highly controversial anticipated second season. The first season was what I suppose you could class as 'In-Yer-Face' confronting sex and drugs in everyday society as the norm; which in my opinion is great as they appear to be taboo subjects which therefore get left out. It is for that reason that I take my hat off to the creator, Tom Kapinos; as it is so refreshing to see the barriers broken down and, a more truthful, representation of reality. The second series keeps this up and David Duchovny again steals the show without a doubt and the chemistry between his co-star Natascha McElhorne is something that cannot be missed.Again this series deals with taboo issues and portrays them as the norm which in all honesty is brave and bold. This is a must see and I would say if you like this series then David Cronenbergs' 1996 movie 'Crash', starring the great James Spader is for you.

Dull, and for this reason..............

A Customer from London, 17th September, 2009

This is really yuck in terms of the endless, full-on, unsexy sexuality - if other reviewers think this subject is 'taboo' and so this show pushes the envelope, they should take a look all around them and get a life - ooh - people having, and talking about sex - that's pretty dangerously radical. Where do these people live?? Presumably in the West - visit your local newsagents or just switch on the TV, it's everywhere, you should not feel repressed!. In this show though it manages to be an incredible, crude turn off and a boring distraction from the story. Duchovny is a good actor but his relationship with his daughter in the series is pretty unbelievable with the daughter being that American 'wierd kid who doesn't look like her parents' type who remains stonily calm and monotonal at all times - but Natasha McElhone is simply awful - she talks like she's stoned, completely stupid (smiling lazily when man she loves and father of her child has sex with yet more women)- she has nil ability to react to any situation believably as an actress and can't do an authentic American accent. No one has a real relationship in the whole thing so you don't really care what happens to them, even in the 2nd series - and nothing DOES happen so that's ok. There are no big events - nothing comes to anything at all, it just kind of moseys along. I wouldn't even be bothered to write this review except that the other reviews are glowing and this should balance it out. Also you get the feeling that this cast could do so much better with some decent writing behind them. They seem bored - this isn't exactly a stretch, except for the embarrassment they probably feel.
