CLOSER co-stars Julia Roberts and Clive Owen reunite for Oscar-nominated director Tony Gilroy's drama tracing the illicit love affair between two spies-turned-corporate operatives. The Cold War has thawed, and for CIA agents seeking to make an easy mint, the real money is in multinational corporations. CIA officer Claire Stenwick (Roberts) and Ray Koval (Owen) are both racing to secure the formula for a product that will bring untold wealth to the company that lands the patent first as the stakes begin to rise, and their passions start to flare. Meanwhile, their mutual employers, industry giant Howerd Tully (Tom Wilkinson) and trailblazing CEO Dick Garsil (Paul Giamatti) start resorting to some seriously underhanded tactics in hope of gaining an advantage over the competition. Loners by definition of their own careers, Claire and Ray engage in a series of schemes and double-crosses while contending with the fact that their mutual attraction could ultimately jeopardize their entire missions.

Empire

Gilroy has gone full on for a classic caper in the Hitchcockian or Charade line of sophisticated comedy thrillers, and it is smart, slick and full of clever twists.

A Tad Dull

Alan Edwards from Croydon, Surrey, 7th August, 2009

I found this film overlong and pretty boring to be honest. There was not a great deal of action and the story wasnt really up to much. OK if you need to pass a couple of hours on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

COMPLEXITY!

Norman Barry from Surrey, England., 19th January, 2010

Keeps you on your toes by twisting and turning, a bit too much if anything. Borderline confusing. Owen's fine, nothing against Roberts but a little lightweight in this partnership.

Poor castings

A Customer from Scottish Borders, 27th February, 2010

Story line and plot is good although a little confusing to begin with. But the casting of the lead actors is poor and the direction of the film could be much better. In the right hands and with the right actors this probably could have been an excellent film

Turned this off half way through! Slow, boring and a little but stupid.

Very good

oldskoolraver from , 28th January, 2010

I thought this was a really good film. Bit of action and very clever storyline. I thought it was similar to Mr and Mrs Smith with a twist. Clive Owen and Julia Roberts was a good paring in this film.
