Actor-turned-director Guillaume Canet follows up his critically-acclaimed debut MON IDOLE (WHATEVER YOU SAY) with the conspiracy thriller TELL NO ONE. Eight years after his wife's brutal murder, paediatrician Alexandre Beck receives an unsettling email from an anonymous sender. The message contains a link to a video--shot in real-time--of a woman who bears an uncanny resemblance to his deceased wife. Could she still be alive? And why does she instruct him to 'tell no one'? Before he has a chance to lift the lid on this mystery, Alexandre finds himself at the centre of a massive cover-up, with the police desperately trying to pin the blame on him for his wife's murder. Like any good thriller, TELL NO ONE packs in plenty of suspense, intrigue, and a general distrust of the authorities. Based on the best-selling novel by Harlan Coben.

Outstanding

Mark Winter from Suffolk, 3rd November, 2009

I loved this film. I seldom watch foreign language films (only because they are harder to find - look at any top 100 and see how many their are), but this was outstanding. I've seen half a dozen foreign language films in the past few years, and this is up their with the best of them. I certainly will be seeking out other films with the lead male actor, and other supporting actors/actresses. The film is basically about a man who was cleared of murdering his wife 8 years ago, but is thrown back into suspicion when further evidence is dug up. The film then follows the man evading capture and trying to solve the crime. The film has lots of action, car chases, running chases, suspence, mystery and intrigue. I would give this film 4.5 stars if I could, and the sole reason for not giving 5 stars is I found the film a litle hard to follow at times. This is nothing to do with the foreign language or subtitles, but probably because I was not familiar witht any of the cast. I also found a couple of huge leaps were made. This is a film where another 5 to 10 minutes would have benefited greatly Never the less it was an outstanding film that I would highly recommend. There is talk of making the film in English. In my opinion this would ruin the film for me. The director and producer has done a marvelous job with this film. The film is also very good in blu-ray.

What is the problem with subtitles?!

Kevin Lloyd from London, 6th August, 2009

Had to submit a review given that the only other one on the site is the kind that really riles me - what on earth is wrong with subtitles?! Saw this at the cinema and enjoyed it just as much a second time - intriguing, very well done and if a bit incredible its hard to find all that many thrillers that don't have to rely on some suspension of disbelief. It also manages to translate into a French setting an American source novel and do so in a convincing and interesting way (and I don't just mean having an English actress play one of the main parts). Its also very moving. And Marie-Josee Croze is gorgeous.

Everything that's great about an all American conspiracy thriller, without any Americans!

aMillion from from Lingfield, England, 10th February, 2010

It is subtitled, which for some is a struggle, (reading and looking as well as thinking all at the same time) and it does have quite a complicated plot line. Plenty of twists, turns, guns, car crashes and best of all, Kristin Scott-Thomas plays a lesbian which will please quite a few I'm sure. Unlike some of it's American countreparts this flim had depth to it. Well written and very well acted and shot. Well worth a watch.

shout it out loud

French cinema has always had to work hard to entice viewers to its cause. Partly due to language and the laziness of english speakers who think that watching the screen and having to read titles is too difficult in the same way that walking and chewing gum at the same time is. Another problem is the 'arty' nature of much French cinema where there is little in physical action and much heavy dialogue of a philisophical and cold nature. Things have changed. Not only do they make thrillers like Crimson rivers which travel internationally but they jave been able to remake US culture fo the better, either from film like Beat that my Heart skipped to novels like Tell No One. There is a sensibility in translation from book to screen which works so well in French. Yes Coben is a fine writer of thrillers, but there is something in the pacing, the depth of character acting and the way the story isn't stifled which seeps under the skin. The only failing trally is the heavy nature of the exposition of the climax. and then revisiting it for another reveal. Given the nature of events revelation in the build up, it just seems to have let the last few minutes drift away. The tying ip of the plot is poorly served by such a dialogue scene, but then it's always in their nature
