Boy meets girl. Boy falls in love. Girl doesn't. This post modern love story is never what we expect it to be--it's thorny yet exhilarating, funny and sad, a twisted journey of highs and lows that doesn't quite go where we think it will. When Tom, a hapless greeting card copywriter and hopeless romantic, is blindsided after his girlfriend Summer dumps him, he shifts back and forth through various periods of their 500 days "together" to try to figure out where things went wrong. His reflections ultimately lead him to finally rediscover his true passions in life.

Go and See It!

A Customer from England, 23rd August, 2009

This is sweet, funny and unpredictable. I saw it at a free screening and loved it. The cast are great, the story line is funny, charming and horribly true, and the soundtrack is fab!

Sooo much to love a brilliant film

PaulaWestwood from , 4th September, 2009

Different, witty, observant, simply one of the cutest films you will get to see. Awkward and unlucky in love Tom (Joseph Gordon Levitt) crosses paths at work with Summer Finn (Zooey Deschannel) and his resulting fortunes of the heart take a turn for the better / or perhaps worse as the case may turn out to be. Chronichling his roller coaster 500 days with summer this is a real gem of a film, justifiably enhanced by a stunning soundtrack. And what a talent the Deschannels are, sister of (Bones) Emily Deschannel, and Zooey herself a talented singer songwriter and the She half of 'She and Him' (check out their version of the Smiths 'Please Please let me get what I want' hidden in the film) - All in all a fantastic film Loved EVERY minute.

The best film of 2009 by far

Mark1978 from , 8th September, 2009

I didn't quite know what to expect when I went to see this film. But it was absolutely fantastic. It's a rare occasion when I don't want a film to come to an end. It's put together really well without the usual much and lots of interludes and asides and funny little inserts more akin to an episode of 'Spaced' than a hollywood film. The must see of 2009

dissappointing

Sanja24 from , 28th September, 2009

Im sorry to say but unlike most reviewers, i found this movie too tiresome. I generally tend to prefer long movies but this 97 minute film i found just far too long and lacking in any depth. Yes the take on relationships is welocomingly refreshing and what promises to be new and insightful fails miserably and offers a description of a short-lived lustful relationship packaged as a quest for love...personally I think it would have been helpful and more relatable if you had greater insight of each cahracter and could form a more sincere emotional bond to them.

Not just a soppy story!

Hookers from , 13th March, 2010

This is not just a boy meets girl story as the heading suggests. Its actually got a twist on that theme but watchable for men and women. Funny in places, clever in others - good one to watch if you don't want too much concentration!

Different, but not great

Duzzbob from , 12th March, 2010

This is a refreshingly different 'boy meets girl' film for a couple of reasons. Firstly it flits between days 1-500 of a 500 day romance in no particular order and the ending isn't typical. There are some funny moments, but also some dull / saggy bits which is a shame as it is tries so hard to be different that you want it to be great. Performances from all are fine even if the main character is a little needy and clingy. Not a bad way to spend an evening in but instantly forgettable afterwards.

The Miserables

Meathammer from , 8th March, 2010

This film has all the elements of a rom-com (a quirky couple fall in love, they walk round Ikea together, they discover each other, etc…) but they do it all with miserable faces, and after 90 minutes of this, I had a miserable face as well. Some scenes seemed to be Woody Allen cut-and-pastes. Showing the girlfriend his favourite buildings is in “Hannah and Her Sisters.” One day a joke makes a girl smile, 250 days later the same joke makes her wince, that is “Annie Hall”. '500' would have been more interesting if it has been about obsession. The man has a pointless job and a dull life, and suddenly he believes the new enigmatic co-worker is going to fill his life with colour, but in reality she is only human. Maybe call it “500 Tank-Tops”?
