Beautiful

A Customer from Nuneaton, 1st March, 2006

Wonderfully and sympathetically acted by Edward Petherbridge as the ultimate Peter Wimsey and Harriet Walters as Harriet Vane. 'Gaudy Night' is my favourite book and I was thrilled that the TV version (if not perfectly faithful) is just as beautifully acted as it is written. I'd give it 6 stars if I were able.

Classic

For anyone that enjoys period drama, this is a lovingly observed portrayal of early 1930's society.

Not the best of the series

A Customer from Nottingham, UK, 11th May, 2007

Having previously rented Strong Poison and Have his Carcase, I was a little disappointed with Gaudy Night. The adaptation of this novel was far less true to the original story, to the extent that important points were lost. At times there are even cases where part of the story is omitted, but its consequences included! Despite this, a good watch, but don't expect a faithful rendition of Sayers' story.

Excellent production or Lord Peter

A Customer from Eastwood, Nottingham, England, 12th September, 2006

The TV series was eagerly awaited week by week and has stood the test of time. It was a delight to see the portrayal of Lord Peter so sympathetically played whilst also making the most of the humour in the script. It is a very acurate transformation from the book to the screen. It is the interplay between the characters that go so far to making this an excellent watch. Let's have more of these.

Only one complaint

A Customer from Scotland, 13th July, 2006

As an avid Wimsey fan I had only one complaint about this particular series, the changes that were made were out of keeping with the fact that they lifted whole speeches verbatim from the book and gave them to totally wrong characters. This was unneccessary and put a lot of stuff out of context. The series was otherwise well acted as always and enjoyable.
