Bruce Robinson's semi-autobiographical account of his early years as an actor has become a cult hit of massive proportions, inspiring countless numbers of young men and women to quote stars Paul McGann and Richard E. Grant and their booze-soaked dialogue. The story follows these two unemployed actors in 1969 London, as they take a holiday in the country. Trapped inside a dank, empty cabin with each other, an endless downpour of heavy rain battering their roof, the two men form a complicated bond fuelled by booze, disaster, and nihilism. Though not much happens in terms of plot, WITHNAIL AND I is one of the most subtly hilarious films to come out of 1980s.

Sight and Sound

[I]t crackles with stoner wit and despairing self-indulgence, and confirms Richard E. Grant's caddish and cowardly sot Withnail as one of English film's great grotesques

Still as fresh as ever

A classic humerous look at 1969. Hilarious. Wonderful acting with some great lines. You must see this movie before you die. Richard E Grant, Paul McGann and Richard Griggiths are their best. This has now been restored from the original master tapes onto Blu-Ray. Picture quality is excellent, sound crystal clear.

Simply The Best

A Customer from Peterborough, 13th July, 2009

I have watched ths film close on 50 times and I never get bored with it, infact, if I'm down - then its time for some Withnail to perk me up! Like many others, I have found myself quoting from the great dialogue many times, there are just so many memorable lines that you lose count. My Daughter keeps asking me why we have gone on holiday by mistake when we go away!! The acting from Richard E Grant and Paul McGann is spot on,but for me the scene stealers are Richard Griffiths deranged uncle Monty and of course Danny the stoner played masterly by Ralph Brown. This film deserves its cult status, long may it reign as a true great brit flick.
