It's not just the snow storm that's chilling in this Canadian zombie movie from director Bruce McDonald (THE TRACEY FRAGMENTS). Stephen McHattie (WATCHMEN) stars as controversy-courting radio DJ Grant Mazzy, who can only find work in Pontypool, Ontario, where he broadcasts his show from the church basement. The monotony of relaying the small-town news of a blizzard is broken when Grant begins to report strange stories of violence to his listeners. It is soon revealed that there's a virus infecting the whole town, and Grant and his coworkers barricade themselves in the office. But the virus doesn't use the standard methods of blood or air for its transmission; instead, language is responsible for the disease, which leaves Grant wondering whether it is better to spread the news or keep quiet.

Starts strong but loses the plot

connorobain from , 6th October, 2009

Pontypool starts off as a marvelously crafted film, with the majortity of the drama being played out mainly by only 3 actors in one room (and a sound booth). the feeling of desolate isolation that you get from what little you do see of outside at the begining you carry with you all through the film and reinforces the feeling of despair. the plot has a unique twist on the zombie genre that could have been executed to a much better degree and thats where this movie starts to lose its pace. what starts of as a chilling and unnerving thriller soon decends into a baffeling farce complete with comedy doctor character, whom im sure isnt supposed to be in there for comedic effect but to me ended up so. it also trys (and fails) to follow along the lines of not answering all the questions ala cloverfield but by the end you are to conufused or just past the point of caring to take notice. its a good movie but falls short of great and you cant help but feel that it could have been so much better.

Superb

I loved this film.Very strange at first as you're trying to figure out what's going on but just go with the flow.Brilliant acting, great story, this is a cracking low budget film that doesn't look low budget. Why can't they make more films like this? 10/10

Utter rubbish

Don't bother with this one as it starts with potential but goes nowhere. Personally one of the worst films I have seen!

Don't Waste 1hr 35mins of your life on this!

This was painful. I actually could not just sit and watch it and got up several times i.e. to make a drink. When I returned it was the same old drivel. In my opinion it was dull and self indulgent and how it got financed is beyond me! Absolute silly story and has that horrible budget quality about it. Quite frankly one of the worst films I have seen in a long while - thank God for the fast-forward button!

Ponty poo...... (sorry)

Pontypool, Pontypool, pool ponty ponty pool pool pool ponty pool………A virus carried be language, a disorientating time line in a window less world, black humour or missed drama……CONFUSED! The premise for this movie is strong as a subversion of the zombie genre and the call ins to the radio station did hold some genuine chills but the movie can’t resolve itself with fractured dialogue and poor narrative. A worthy miss.

ALL TALK NO ACTION

dongal from , 12th March, 2010

This film was terrible, I wasted my time watching this film till the end. It started with a guy in a radio station talking and after an hour of the film he was still talking. I was waiting for a good zombie film, well I waited and waited and the last 5 Min's of the film yep there was a couple and that was it folks.
