In the romantic comedy YES MAN, divorce Carl Allen (Jim Carrey) finds himself stuck in a rut, too afraid to take a risk. At his best friend's insistence, he attends a New Age self-help seminar designed to turn naysayers into yea-sayers. Carl is reluctant at first, but finds the seminar to be ultimately life-changing when he's coerced into adopting a 'say yes' attitude. As the first opportunity to say 'yes' presents itself, Carl hesitantly utters the three-letter word, setting the stage for a domino effect of good rewards, and giving Carrey a platform to show off his comedy chops. But over time, Carl realises that saying 'yes' to everything indiscriminately can produce results every bit as complicated and messy as saying 'no'.
The ever-quirky Zooey Deschanel adds her signature charm as Carl's love interest, Allison. An unlikely match at first glance, the pair's on-screen chemistry starts to bloom as the actors play off each other's different styles of humour. Rhys Darby also shines as Carl's loveable but clueless boss, and THAT 70s SHOW's Danny Masterson appears as another one of Carl's friends. While YES MAN marks no major departure from Carrey's previous work, the sweet crowd-pleaser manages to showcase two sides of its leading man.

just another liar liar!

stupot stannie from highlands, scotland, 4th October, 2009

first impressions - just another liar liar! although this time its not a case he physically cannot lie, but that he decides to say yes. that aside, the film was funny, with a good story line that flowed throughout the film. sadly, jim carrey seems to be a one trick pony - tell some jokes, pull funny faces and act like a rubber band man. If you've not seen many of his films - this is a great intro, otherwise its same old, same old. on its own - good film. with the rest of his films - another run of the mill jim carrey film

Nearly the same thing...

JustAFanTC from from Leeds, 6th February, 2010

Upon seeing the advert for 'Yes Man' and knowing that Jim Carrey has not been in the limelight for some time as far as comedy is concerned, you can easily believe that this film is along the same lines as Bruce Almighty and Liar Liar. And you'd be right, but the more dissapointing aspect of this unimaginative reboot of Mr Carrey's comedy career is that the film isn't that great. True the concept is interesting. A man who is used to saying 'no', after going to a self help meeting has to say 'yes' to every oppertunity which comes his way. Let the comedy ensue. But maybe it was this which sparked a more somber note which is not really explored in the film but is insinuated. Eventually by saying Yes to everything, you no longer do things because you want to do them. And the most infuriating thing about the film is that the character which Jim Carrey plays does not get this until the end of the movie, yet it takes the viewer a few minutes to reach that conclusion. This IS a funny film, just expected something more original, my mistake
