Batman back to glory

DopeyDude from from London, 21st September, 2009

I was waiting for this game since the moment I heard about it. I literally couldn't wait so when I saw it on it's way to me I was very excited. From the moment I put it in my PS3 I was in love. This game is an absolute masterpiece and should be a rental to any Batman fan or non fan. Visually this game is stunning, from the buildings to the enemies. You'll see some amazing landscapes in this game, good enough to say they look realistic. Batman's suit looks great and you'll see the damage on the suit as time goes on. Enemies look pretty decent as well, whether it be Joker or a random thug, they all look great. Ivy was nicely done as well. The asylum is huge and allows you to really explore the are freely so you're not confined to one small building like other games. Combat, wow is all you can really say. The freeflow combat system is simply wonderful. Moving from one thug to anotherm, using counters and a vast array of Batman's gadgets at your disposal. Story is another great part of this game. This could easily be turned into a movie, that's how it really is. Each villain is given so much character, rather than just a little piece here and there. I found this really great to be honest. I'm fed up of games that give you little insight as to what you're doing and find yourself bored. This game delivers an amazing story =D Another great thing about this game is the extras, running around solving riddles, collecting trophies and then the great combat challenges and predator challenges. So with this, the game allows you to play for hours on end without running out of things to do. I will flaw it, I hated the loading times, going from one side of the asylum to another would sometimes cause loading times, yes I'm impatient like that. The lip sync on the game isn't very good either, but you can get passed that so it won't be a problem. So all in all, a must rent and hope you enjoy the game as much as I did.

Exactly what it should be

Trunkdan from , 8th October, 2009

This game does not disapoint in anyway at all. Batman and other character models have been crafted to look as hard wearing and detailed as they possibly could be. Familar villans like poison ivy and Harley quin make their entry as the joker takes over. Using a simple but devistatingly painful looking combo system, batman can disable hoardes of the insane and joker minons. He can also use stealth by using the enemy's fears against them, staying on high platforms and taking them out one by one. Batman also has his detective skills, which using the coul of vision (his mask), he can see through walls and search crime scenes to track down clues, such as trails of smoke or fingerprints. This game is a must for anyone looking for a brawler, or even for those who like a challenge of the mind - as the riddler puts trophies and puzzles to solve in every zone!

Batman: Arkham Asylum'

Truely awsome game. Excellent graphics, gameplay and soundtrack perfectly acompany this involving and addictive addition to the PS3 line up. Basic controls enable you to string together combo's and emmerse yourself in the Arkham world. Without a doubt, he best comic book game that PlayStation's ever had.....if not any system. Very highly recommended.

It seems hard to believe that any game could ever top this. An all round brilliant game with some of the best graphics to date. A timeless classic worthy of several replays.

How a superhero game should be done

A Customer from UK, 25th February, 2010

There have been many superhero games that have been made over the years in various incarnations but very few have managed to pull off the genre in a satisfying way. Batman Arkham Asylum is the perfect example of how a superhero game should be done. The game manages to capture the atmosphere of the Batman universe in all its glory utilising the source material to good effect with appearances by supervillains such as The Scarecrow, Poison Ivy, Killer Croc. The combat is rewarding and flows seamlessly from one move to the next and when you have mastered it you do feel like you are the Dark Knight himself. Being able to stealthily takedown enemies from above when perching on a gargoyle is something you can't help but enjoy. Many of Batman's gadgets make an appearance (Batarang, grapple hook) as well as some new additions. Boss fights are done in an inventive way rather than following the standard formula although my only gripe is that some of them do feel a little too easy particularly the Joker. Graphically the game is very pleasing on the eye especially the character models which are rendered with great detail. What elevates the game to the upper echelons is the story which is engrossing and supported by some very strong voice acting with Mark Hamill aka Luke Skywalker to Star Wars fans providing excellent voicework for The Joker. The game is of a good length taking about 12 hours to complete and once you finished the main game there are a series of optional challenges to test your skill in stealth and combat. Seasoned gamers may find the game to be easier than other titles but it doesn't detract too much from how engaging the game is. Loading times are a bit longer than some games after a death but not cripplingly slow. Another niggle is that although the Batmobile does make an appearance unfortunately you never get to hop into the driving seat. However these things are not major complaints but something that they could improve upon maybe in a future title. The overall package is of a very high quality creating a very memorable experience and I would highly recommend this game to anyone.

One for the Batman fans mostly

KhEpic from , 15th February, 2010

Just to make it clear; I'm not a fan of Batman. Now I don't actively dislike Batman, it's just that to me he's just some bloke in a silly costume. Still with all the rave reviews, this game recieved I was expecting a great experience. Unfortunaly what I encountred was a very average game. First the graphics; they seemed somewhat dated, maybe it was the muddy artstyle, but I expect better in modern games. That turned out to be irrelevant however because you spend 90% of the game in 'detective' vison you don't get to see that. This is a game mechanic that must have seemed amazing on paper, but in practice is awefully implemented. Basically it's x-ray vison that lets you see secrets and enemies through walls, so it makes sense to have it on all the time...but then you miss what the game is actually meant to look like. Then the combat, it's very easy and button mashing at it's worst. You basically use 1 sometimes 2 buttons the whole way through. In short bursts (the challenge game modes) it's quite fun because you just watch bats string together a nice looking combo without you really doing anything, but the downside is you don't really get to control what moves he is doing which left me feeling very disconnected from the action. On top of that you are basically fighting the same enemy (shirtless fella with a clown mask) over and over through the whole game, occasionally punctuated by a laughable 'boss'. Sorry this is not a great game...it's not a bad game either by any means, it's decent enough (very good in some places like the scarecrow sections), but if this was a brand new character and not Batman I couldn't see this game getting much attention.
