Daniel Craig returns as Ian Fleming's most famous creation in QUANTUM OF SOLACE, the first film in the James Bond series to follow directly on from the previous entry. Continuing where CASINO ROYALE concluded, QUANTUM OF SOLACE finds Bond on a perilous mission to uncover the truth behind the betrayal of his beloved Vesper, while keeping one step ahead of M (Judi Dench MRS HENDERSON PRESENTS, SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE), the CIA and a shadowy organisation fronted by the diabolical Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric - THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY, MARIE ANTOINETTE).

Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright - BASQUAIT, Oliver Stone's W) and the dubious Rene Mathis (Giancarlo Giannini - BLACK BELLY OF THE TARANTULA, SEVEN BEAUTIES) also return for this high octane sequel directed by internationally-renowned German filmmaker Marc Forster (THE KITE RUNNER, FINDING NEVERLAND). Though QUANTUM OF SOLACE takes its gritty and uncompromising lead from CASINO ROYALE, many of the series' hallmark ingredients are present, including a bevy of beautiful women which includes Gemma Arterton (ST. TRINIANS, ROCKNROLLA) and Olga Kurylenko (LE SERPENT, HITMAN), and a post-modern music score from series veteran David Arnold.

Non stop action and excitment

Mark Winter from Suffolk, 23rd September, 2009

Having recently watched the last half dozen Bond films, this was by far above my favourite. The action was constant. The special effects and stunts were fantastic. The rooftop chase was amazing. Daniel Craig is just brilliant as James Bond. My only slight gripe is that he appears as being small. I read a recent review of Q of S which critised the lack of the usual Bond humour. I accept that this is reduced to almost zero, but it did not affect my enjoyment of this film, and to be fair it went unnoticed. If you want constant excitement and action with a half decent plot, then you will not be dissapointed.

Ticks all the right boxes, but not as good as Casnio Royale

A Customer from Cardiff, 1st March, 2009

This is a good Bond film, better than all Brosnan's film hands down, although Quantum of Solace isn't as polished as Casino Royale. The villians and the bond girls aren't as memorable as in Royale, but Craig and Dench are on top form, with Dench being given a welcome extented role. The action scenes although good, are just a carbon copy of the latest Bourne film, which is a shame as Bond doesn't need to copy the Bourne films, as he has his legacy to look up to. Don't expect any invisable cars, cheesy one-liners or any raised eye brows, as this Bond is more like the Terminator rather than a posh, martini drinking spy. That said, the story is really good and continues Bonds investigation of the dark organisation that killed Vesper. And know doubt, Bonds investigation into this organisation will play an important role in the next film which I look forward in seeing. I hope they get a Chris Nolan (The Dark Knight) to direct the next one, as I think he'll introduce some new intersting concepts to the Bond franchise. Overall solid entertainment.

The Worst Bond Film Ever?

Andy73 from from Caerleon, 9th May, 2009

The filming at the start of the film, which I am sure is technically very impressive, made it difficult to watch. The shot changed every few seconds and therefore was very difficult to follow. The opening film scenes were reminiscent of those awful 1970s kung fu movies. The story was ok, yes just ok but was SO difficult to follow it was unreal. Daniel Craig lacks any carisma as Bond and I'm sure that if this film was not made under the BOND title it would have been a huge flop. Just absolutely truly a terrible film - If you like BOND I would give this one a miss.

James, James Boring.

PhilpottBros from , 26th April, 2009

The film has all the car chase scenes and Explosions of a Bond film only problem where’s the Charismatic, Women Using, Smooth agent who is James Bond…nowhere to be found.

Daniel Craig is a blank canvas who at no point seems to show much Charisma, he's not a bad actor but he'd be better suited as a Bond Villain, the Director and Writers of the recent two Bond films seem to Isolate fans of the original Bond films who enjoyed the 1 liners and cheeky innuendos. Even more so is the name of the latest film “Quantum of Solace” which is better suited to an Art house movie, thinking back to previous films Gold Finger, Thunder ball, Tomorrow Never dies, it doesn't quiet fit in.

Personally I feel there have been two good Bonds Sean Connery the master and Pierce Brosnan, for me Roger Moore was to Camp and his films were a little to corny and lets not even mention George Lazenby it is painful to watch and what’s even worst had the film had the write Bond it would have been one of the best films with a great plot. Timothy Dalton was actually a decent bond but not very well known.

What’s wrong with Quantum of Solace, its lacks what made Bond popular in the first place, sure you've got the action but none of the James Bond personality or Familiarity, its too dark and serious for bond and really only caters to a small audience, who enjoy such films as “L’ Voyage du Artistic Baboon” and think the Blinking Light Bulb at the Tate modern is art.

Where as Gold Finger, Children and Adults alike can enjoy it, kids like the explosions and its enjoyable being able to laugh at the Innuendos, whilst your kids are innocently unaware.

James bonds is supposed to have a certain sexiness to it, this film has none of that.

Sadly these movies have been replaced...

Simija from from Basingstoke, 15th February, 2010

I think they did a rushed job trying to mimic all that is great from the Bourne Series and failed to do any more than a slick remake of Bourne ultimatum. They need to come up with something special to keep the series going. I am looking forward to Green Zone instead.
