The seventh and last movie to be culled from Richard Gordon's bestselling series was based on a book called Doctor on Toast, which would have been a pretty apt title for this innocently smutty film, as it feels as if it has been warmed up from the left-overs of Doctor at Sea. Director Ralph Thomas, who had been behind the camera since the first outing, Doctor in the House in 1954, seems at a loss for inspiration here, and any enjoyment there is to be had comes from the bullish performance of Leslie Phillips as the medic-turned-steward on board a luxury liner.
