Writer/Director David Goyer (Blade: Trinity, The Invisible, Batman Begins) gives a terrifying glimpse into the life of the undead in The Unborn, a supernatural thriller that follows a young woman pulled into a world of nightmares when a demonic spirit haunts her and threatens everyone she loves.

Casey Bell (Odette Yustman) hated her mother for leaving her as a child. But when inexplicable things start to happen, Casey begins to understand why she left. Plagued by merciless dreams and a tortured ghost that haunts her waking hours, she must turn to the only spiritual advisor, Sendak (Gary Oldman), who can make it stop.

With Sendak's help, Casey uncovers the source of a family curse dating back to Nazi Germany - a creature with the ability to inhabit anyone or anything that is getting stronger with each possession. With the curse unleashed, her only chance at survival is to shut a doorway from beyond our world that has been pried open by someone who was never born.

The Exorcism of a Dybbuk!

A Customer from SW London, 28th February, 2009

This is a somewhat interesting film to watch, especially since some parts reminded me of scenes in 'The Exorcist' (twisting heads etc..). It's essentially the story of an exorcism of a dybbuk (a malevolent spirit that refuses to leave the human world and inhabits the body of a person) who wants to be born now. These little buggers are not so easy to send back from where they came from!Obviously until the end of the film everyone is kept guessing as to why this dybbuk is hounding Casey Beldon. The story is extremely predictable and at times not very convincing.Every so often I'd be distracted by the main actress' incredibly bad skin that is very unusual to see in a Hollywood film.Perhaps the fact that I was distracted like that meant that the film was at times a bit of a let down.Nevertheless it's entertaining to watch once only. Not the sort of film I would buy on DVD and watch several times at home.

Dear God its one giant Cliche

lizturner from , 18th March, 2009

I went to see this at the cinema insterad of of valkerie...BIG MISTAKE! Take every stupid horror film cliche ever...like, stabbed girl crawling slowly up the stairs while killer walks calmy up behind her. Add a dash of totally overused 'lets exorcise the monster out' from a very old very big book (which she somehow steals from the library)and lo and behold it comes out !! Lots of blowing wind and swishing lights! Then make the girl half naked most of the time walking around in just jeans and tshirt in the snow, (oh plus her good looking boyfriend of course) Not forgetting the typical best mate who doesn't believe her and goes around saying 'girlfriend' and wobbling her head a lot. Oh dear! most of the cinema was in hysterics at this film and not because its meant to be toungue in cheek...it's just that bad. I gave it one star because the dog is quite scary, it made jump once and bizarely Gary Oldman is in it (he must not have read the script, is all I can say)

meh

A Customer from GLOS, 23rd March, 2009

A story about an exorcism. It did spark my interest when scenes reminded me of the exorcist. The best scenes are of comparable quality to the recent Hollywood remakes of Japanese horror films. Here is the problem, the scenes of an acceptable horror quality are dispersed amongst largely cliché drivel. I don't usually suffer from attention problems when watching films. This one I did. It is watchable. Once.

WOW

DJSupasonik from , 20th July, 2009

To be honest - I wasnt expecting much from this as I had read all the bad reviews. I had seen the trailer and thought it looked amazing but was sort of influenced then by the bad reviews - but, nonetheless, I wanted to see it. Buy are those reviewers wrong! THis film rocks! Its amazing. It actually HAS a story, the acting is good, the effects are amazing and there are loads of jumps n insane madness in this to keep you gripped. I sure enjoyed it - yes, there aint exactly a lot of gore - its more supernatural type stuff - but really really good!!! Top marks!!

Just doesn't make sense

Billypinky from , 14th March, 2010

This is the Jewish Exorcist written for the under 16's . This movie starts well but goes downhill fast. Someone loses a glove and the heroine's eyes start changing colour. At this point I'm hiding behind the sofa (laughing). A few bad dreams and the usual bathroom cabinet with the mirror trick doesn't make... a horror movie. There's a really old lady wearing a Kabbalah Bracelet (I think it could have been Madonna) being chased around a retirement home in the dark. And for a really good laugh a rabbi, a priest and a man with a video camera all stand in front of a wind machine making fools of themselves. I think for all concerned it would be wise to leave The Unborn undisturbed gathering dust in the warehouse. 3/10
