Dale Denton (Rogen), a process server with a weed fixation, witnesses a murder and turns to his dealer, Saul (James Franco), for support. The murderer is actually Saul's main drug supplier, and because of Saul's access to some extremely rare high-grade pot (called Pineapple Express) the two are quickly tracked down and put on the run. Like all Apatow/Rogen vehicles, the movie deals with the theme of men succumbing to adulthood and all the adjustments they are forced to make in the process. However, unlike KNOCKED UP and THE 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN, PINEAPPLE EXPRESS is just too wacky to offer any lessons. Still, there's more going on here than giggles and the munchies. Indie director David Gordon Green (SNOW ANGELS) brings a subtle auteur's touch to the proceedings, approaching the smoking scenes with his distinctively loose feel and giving the action sequences a wonderfully dated sheen that makes them look more like a fight from KNIGHT RIDER than the empty flash of 21st-century blow-em-ups. It is Franco, however, who truly steals this movie--he hasn't been this charming since his days on FREAKS AND GEEKS. There's only so many ways to play a stoner, but Franco puts his own endearing, lovable spin on the type, portraying Saul as a kind-hearted, well-intentioned yet hardcore dope smoker.

Rolling Stones

You'll go limp from laughing […] The script by Rogen and his SUPERBAD writing partner, Evan Goldberg, is a trippy wonder […]
Loaded with turbocharged action and nonstop giggles […] Rogen and Franco are comedy dynamite

Good film, could be better

A Customer from Warrington, 22nd January, 2009

For people wanting an in depth plot with extensive characters rent something els, if you want a funny, chilled out make you smile movie you cant go wrong. At the end of the day this is a film made by stoners, for stoners! nothing more nothing less. I would recommend to anyone who likes to 'chill' with a few mates!

Can someone please tell these thicko film producers to just make a better investment in the world just give the money to me to spend on similarly pointless stuff.

Honestly, what a waste of time this film was. Like someone mentioned this is a poor mans rip off of Cheech and Chong

Stay away from this rasberry!

Good Laugh

I thought this film was pretty good. Seth Rogan wasnt as good as his previous roles (Superbad, Knocked Up) but was still very funny. Definitely worth a watch if you are a fan of his.

Slow Start, end is hilarious

A Customer from Manchester, 27th January, 2009

The film isn't the greatest but you do have to bare with it, you really miss out if you give up before the end as the last 30 minutes are brilliant, just a shame the rest of the film wasn't that good

Get Locked and Loaded with this stoner action flick

Pete10141748 from from Luton, 23rd September, 2009

Judd Apatow states that he wanted to 'create a large movie, like a Bruckheimer, on a small-scale budget' and he almost makes it happen too. The best way to sum up this movie is as follows; 'Cheech and Chong meets Lethal Weapon'. Stoners stumble accross a gang war between dealers and ultimately learn a lot about themselves, while unloading huge amounts of ammunition and comedy as they go. I laughed a lot at this film, at both the intended comedy and the over-the-top action which in itself it quite comical too. A stoner film with an action twist, it's an enjoyable ride with Seth Rogen and James Franco both on top form, Franco especially, showing comedic talent he hasn't portayed since 'Freaks and Geeks'. Recommended.

Quite a few chuckles with this one, good twist on the normal spoof action comedy genre
