Gets steadily more hilarious as it goes on

Lunar from , 24th August, 2009

Consider me taken in somewhat by the term 'Patrick Swayze gives a career defining performance', attached the the unfortunate legend of the Dirty Dancing star's state of health. Add to that my love of good cop shows and I thought i'd give it a go. The pilot is fairly well done, beautifully shot with a blue wash in snow, plot holds up *fairly* well, a lad from The Wire shows up, the show holds a little promise. Even conditioning myself into a mindset that this was like a modern day version of classic pulp detectives and letting somewhat coincidental things happen and some rather cheesy dialog choices, I pressed on. Unfortunately. The show becomes steadily more hilarious, be it Swayze's character suddenly being completely fluent in Romanian, or the 'breathtaking' performance of sidekick Travis Fimmel, who for the most part veers between passable and a stoner trying to pass a conker. Surely the worst actor I've ever seen. By the end of the first disc it had become a bit of a guilty pleasure. In the same way as Sunset Beach was, mixed in with a dash of Scooby Doo. That said, I won't be watching any further in. It's terrible.

How did this ever get made?

Shut it Love Actually from Norwich, England, 10th November, 2009

There are not many occasions when I judge a book by its cover, however this was one, and I am now kicking myself for not exercising my own quality control. A few minutes in I realised that I had been mugged. If this was a mugging everything would have been taken including my clothes and dignity. The alarm bells should have really rung when I realised that the housewives favourite Patrick Swayze was cast in the main lead as an FBI agent. It's like casting Christopher Biggins to play Bobby Sands in Hunger. Indeed, a dirty protest is a fitting metaphor to describe this tripe.

The Beast - Brilliant!

A Customer from Reading, 9th October, 2009

Lunar from Derby - what a crap review. I thought it very sad that this was the only review available. I would love there to be more to watch of the series, it was excellent - and I've watched most of the big shows, the Shield, 24, etc. I suppose watching my dad die from Pancreatic Cancer gave me a lot of empathy for Patrick Swayze (and has family), but took nothing from the performance and writing. He was very heroic to want to leave a lasting statement of his life, I very much admire him. Best of all the series was excellent, fantastic viewing, watch it - it will leave you wanting more. G

The Beast - Season 1

A Customer from THETFORD, 1st December, 2009

Lunar from Derby - awful review and incredibly unhelpful! I love thrillers and action movies and I thought this was amazing ... We watched The Sopranos right through from start to finish ... one disc at a time ... and we did the same with this one! It kept us on the edge the whole time and I am so sorry that this was the only one done! I think that this was definitely Patrick Swayze's Finest hour and what a way to leave this earth ... his wife must be very proud. What are we going to watch now? Any suggestions??
