Brennan Huff, a sporadically employed thirty-nine-year-old, lives with his mother, Nancy. Dale Doback, a terminally unemployed forty-year-old lives with his father, Robert. When Robert and Nancy marry and move in together, Brennan and Dale are forced to live with each other as step brothers. As their narcissism and downright aggressive laziness threaten to tear the family apart, these two middle-aged, immature, overgrown boys will orchestrate an insane, elaborate plan to bring their parents back together. To pull it off, they must form an unlikely bond that maybe, just maybe, will finally get them out of the house.

Time Out, London

Tightly scripted by Ferrell and McKay [...] A hugely enjoyable, well-constructed slice of lowbrow Saturday night entertainment, leaving Ferrell’s position as the reigning king of US comedy secure for a while longer

I laughed from start to finish

A Customer from Glasgow, 28th December, 2008

Truely a laugh a minute, if you love Will Ferrell you'll love this. I you don'l like him, have you seen Elf? Clearly not or you would love Will Ferrell.

Step Brothers

Watchable but ultimately disappointing effort from the House of Ferrell. While the Apatow/Rogen bandwagon can seemingly do no wrong Will Ferrell has been starring in a string of forgettable and unfunny films for too long (Semi-Pro anyone?). This unfortunately fails to buck the trend. The premise and set up are great; two forty year olds who still live at home become step-brothers after their parents get married. And with an excellent cast including John C. Reily and the always brilliant Mary Steenburgen the ingredients for a hilarious comedy are in place. Sadly, the script and Adam McKay's direction are just not that good. I can't remember a single joke and although a few set-pieces had promise they just weren't funny. At 105 minutes its also a little too long. Ok if you want an easy watch in the middle of the afternoon, just don't hold your breadth for the originality or quotability of Anchorman or the laugh out loud moments of Old School.

dreadful

A Customer from staines, 2nd March, 2010

Humour is a individual thing but I had trouble finding anything to laugh at in this pitiful film. It is a shame because I like Will Ferrell but this was a stinker. I suppose early teens would find something in it as they think they invented willy bum jokes, and saying words like butt hole is really cool. They will grow out of it. It has all been done before, and better.

Step Brothers

Will Ferrell always does a brilliant film and this is no exception. Right from the beginning of the film its laugh out loud funny and me in complete hysterics all the way through. Will Ferrell and John Reilly work brilliantly together. One of the funniest films I have seen in a long time. If your a Will Ferrell fan then this is not too be missed as you wont be let down. Funnier than Elf and not far off Anchorman. The extras on the blueray are also worth a watch. Extra scenes, retakes and messed up lines - fantastic !!!

Funny, but not Ferrels best

JimOo from , 14th January, 2010

This was a good film, but after watching it, I just felt it could have been so much funnier. I am a fan of Ferrel and just felt that there could have been more jokes to let him really play his part. But overall it was good, would recommend

Reasonable

This was an ok film. Reasonably funny in parts but I feel the humour could have been better.Seemed to try too hard and didn't quite make it.
