Small-town boy Shawn MacArthur has come to New York City with nothing. When Harvey offers Shawn help at making the real cash, the two form an uneasy partnership. As Shawn's manager, Harvey introduces him to the corrupt bare-knuckle circuit, where rich men bet on disposable pawns. Almost overnight, he becomes a star brawler, taking down professional boxers, mixed martial arts champs and ultimate fighters in a series of staggeringly intense bouts. But, if Shawn ever hopes to escape the dark world in which he's found himself, he must now face the toughest fight of his life.

Movie is as unimpressive as the title !

A Customer from SW London, 15th May, 2009

This movie was quite slow paced and very boring at times. The fight scenes were unimpressive, and in all fairness I have seen Channing in better form than in this movie.Howard's character speaking was what annoyed me most (he doesn't usually speak like that as I have seen him in other movies): it was slow and sluggish and made watching his character on screen annoying. I think what this movie lacked was energy/heart or passion whatever you want to call it. It's a shame, being a Rocky-esque style movie it could have been done so much better.

Fighting, where???

Alicia123 from , 18th May, 2009

The film titled fighting looked really good on the trailer, this is just one of them films that you get all the build up for and then it is rubbish! The fighting scenes dont match up to much more like a wrestling match, I thought it was going to be action from start to end but the story line was poor. I am a huge fan of terrance howard who plays the manager of the fighter yet his wet character in this film irritated me the drowny voice he used was the worse wet voice I have ever heard. I have to say please dont bother wasting your money going to see this if you have to rent it on DVD because it's awful.

Fighting Failure.

A Customer from Ipswich, 23rd May, 2009

I couldn't help but laugh at this film while watching it, as it reminds me of a few other films which are, 'All the action and good parts from the film, go into the trailer' kinda deals. It is seriously like a rookie movie, the acting is so bad, and you can see it. It goes on for around 3 hours, and doesnt accomplish much during so. A beefy looking guy selling knock-off 'Harry Potter books' from a rug at a market, all of a sudden gets robbed one day, and he throws some punches at the guys who done it. Someone sees this, a wannabe bigshot played by Terrence Howard, and talks Knock-off Nigel into fighting for money. Fight after Fight after Fight ensues, literally. Yes thats right, 3 fights, before he meets up with a rival from back home who his Dad liked more, and has trained up to be a professional in some UFC league. Then ooh looky, he beats him too. I actually predicted the end to my girlfriend, about 3/4 into the film. So a film thats 3 hours in length with only 3 small fights, a quick love scene and a 'grand finale' to finish the whole thing up. Lots of the scenes are long and almost like the director is telling the actors to speak slower, just to fill the film out. The main character, Shaun MacArthur is a Knucklehead. He barely talks and when he does its some rubbish comment, stuttering or something barely comprehensible at all. The fight scenes are over almost as quick as they start, with 1 fight scene lasting barely 10 seconds before there is interferance, its broken up, and everyone runs away. The sound of the punches are amplified, to give the impression that they are doing alot more damage than they actually are. All in all its a terrible film and its really not worth seeing. Those who are reading this review after seeing this movie will be nodding their head in agreement to the review I have given this film.

Farting not fighting

BigDev from , 16th August, 2009

Terrence Howard is a great actor, unfortunately for this film he was turned into an intelligent version of Forrest Gump only less entertaining - if this was the only film you had watched him in, then his career would be over. The Plot was unbelievably thin, the Direction was poor and all of the supporting cast were inadequate. Channing Tatum should have saved his talents. The trailers looked great, it should have been a great action film with a great storyline and cast. I gave it 1 star because there are worse films than this out there, but only just. The Director should be abandoned in the Arctic

Arrrgggghhhhh!!!! The Pain, the Pain!

apfk from from Weston-Super-Mare, 28th October, 2009

Rarely do I review a film, and usually if I do it's to warn others not to waste their time and money on such dross as “Fighting” In fairness I didn’t even watch the film to whatever climax this was undoubtedly building up to… this was due to the appalling acting from the main cast, did Terrence Howard take “Un-Acting” lessons, he was awful, mono-tonal and the whole “Oh I’m mad at you” and 30 seconds later “Hey we can still be friends y’know” shtick, you could only tell he was angry because it said so in the God awful script! As for Channing Tatum… Nuff said! There didn’t appear to be any training montages or build up as to where he got his fighting skills from, (such as they were, like he wins by shear luck, and not because he’s the better fighter, I’m referencing from the only 2.5 fights I could bear to stick with the film long enough to watch) other than some references from another character who seems to know the main characters father, who hadn’t even appeared in the film; R.E.not seen the end, so who knows, may have shown up! It took my 3rd attempt at trying to convince myself that this might, just might get better, but I knew I was only kidding myself in the end, so gave up about halfway through the dross, I mean film! I hope you all do better than I did!
