Hop aboard the rollercoaster of life

Daniel Pollard from Manchester, England, 15th September, 2009

The latest film from the makers of Superbad-but don’t let that put you off. Written and directed by Greg Mottola; Adventureland is based on his own experiences of growing up and working in an amusement park one summer. Like a good few other films released this year, Adventureland is a nostalgic 1980s set movie that harks back to the golden age of mix tapes, VHS, Atari arcade games, and a world without mobile phones, text messages and e-mails. In making a period piece, Mottola creates a profound yearning for a simpler past without all the distractions of the modern world. All the technology is stripped down and so too are his trademark crudeness and misogynistic teen gross out stuff. Instead he has created a very funny and touching coming-of-age comedy-drama that is way ahead of everything he has previously made. He really shows the awkwardness and anguish of being a young adult and trying to find your way in the world, both with relationships and your career. The film also contains an excellent performance from Kristen Stewart as a fellow social misfit and Adventureland employee, but above all, Mottola has created something very few coming-of-age films contain; a film full of heart with great sincerity.

Very cheesey!

Beego from , 17th August, 2009

Went and saw this today in the cinema as a special preview before it was released, i was so exctied about seeing it and could not wait! But i was extremely dissapointed! With such a strong cast i thought this film would be excellent, the teen movie of the year! But it wasn't. THere were so many cheesey moments and they could have done a LOT more with the story line and made it alot more funnier. Only see this if you get amused VERY easily. Wouldn't recommed it.

not so good. i admit some of the actors were pretty good, minus kristen stuart, she doesn't really talk OUT. parts were really cheesy and stupid where it could have been way better. wouldn't recommend it.

Totally charming

Lil T from West Midlands, England, 5th March, 2010

Well im not a Twilight film fan so the fact Kirsten whatsaname is in it wouldn't make or break it for me. However I love the 'understated' feel to this film. Charming great characters, very simple story line, loved it made me chuckle in places and what a soundtrack ...... id have been arnd the characters ages in 1987 made me feel all nostalgic .. a real treat didnt know what to expect and wasn't disappointed.
