Though this thriller is the fourth collaboration between Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe - following on from GLADIATOR, A GOOD YEAR and AMERICAN GANGSTER - it marks the veteran director's first pairing with Leonardo DiCaprio. In this adaptation of a novel by David Ignatius, DiCaprio plays a CIA agent who wants the help of a more experienced agent (Crowe) in his investigation of a Jordanian terrorist.

Great

GaryI from , 8th March, 2009

Look, a Ridley Scott film is an event, don't deny it. The critics love to hype his approaching films and then be violently disappointed by them. Don't read any of that rubbish, this is a first class political thriller with a great cast. Its violent, intrigueing and set on a world stage. Di Caprio continues to be a great action actor and he's as good here as in Blood Diamond. Crowe shows what a superb character actor he is. This is top class cinema, its great.

Not as good as I hoped

Mark Winter from Suffolk, 10th November, 2009

I thought this film would be in the 'Blood Diamond' class, but it wasn't. The film is basically about an American agent working in the Middle East. The agent, his boss, his allies, his ememies are all trying to score politcal points, and 'win'. I think you are basially trying to determine who the good and bad guys are, and hence who is lying and who is telling the truth. Who do you trust? Who do you believe? I found the film lacking in action and often confusing. It's obviously well written and well directed, however it was perhaps too well written. To quote the famous phrase, sometimes less is more (George Orwell?). I appreciate that the Middle East is very complicated, and if the film was trying to portray this then it done so superbly. However in my opinion it should have made things a little more understandable and easier to follow. I'm not sure that I fully understand who the good and bad guys are. I could obviously watch the film again, but I no desire to (yet).

Black Opstastic

One of the best thrillers I have seen in quite a while. Maybe since the Bourne movies, don't get me wrong its not in the same vein as the Bourne movies. Leo was good as was Crowe but it was Mark Strong as their Jordanian Intel boss who oozed menace everytime he was on-screen. Great twists and some social commentary that maybe not always the best thing to put in a movie about the CIA but handled fairly by Ridley Scott and his cast Excellent 1080p picture supported by a fine True HD soundtrack that makes me happy that I upgraded to Blu Ray.

A good movie

A Customer from ENGLAND, 18th February, 2010

This was a good movie in my opinion although you really have to pay attention in order not to miss anything as the story is pretty complex. Nevertheless a good performance from di Caprio and Crowe and they keep you interested throughout.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Russ and Leo were up to standard. The story was gripping but not exciting. Well worth watching though.
