Time Out

Just as French realist cinema latterly needed a shot in the arm from such uncompromising, hard-edged banlieue thrillers...

Shifty

A Customer from London, 13th December, 2008

This is a really great film that is gripping and whilst urban is so much more interesting than a lot of the recent urban films. Great story, great acting and great editing.

Excellent first film from a one-to-watch director

Daniel Pollard from Manchester, 17th September, 2009

Made with a meagre budget of £100,000 and written and directed by new comer Eran Creevy, Shifty is a nice diversion from the usual mockney gangster films of Guy Ritchie and anything featuring Danny Dyer. Set in the London suburbs, rather than the all familiar grimy east-end (does this even exist anymore?), and based on 24 hours between two school friends who have since grown apart. Shifty tackles some tough themes in its short 85 minute running time, from addiction, love and loss, the nature of friendship and Asian family values versus the get-rich-quick drug dealing culture. Unlike the usual cockney gangster films, Creevy has crafted proper well rounded characters, which he treats with respect and a light touch. An impressive debut from an emerging talent.

Good drama

hughiepmanchester from , 26th August, 2009

Enjoyably gritty drama set on a London estate, strong character performances from the whole cast keep it going well without ever straying into Guy Ritchie mockney cliche.

Just ok

A Customer from Bristol, 1st September, 2009

This film looked excellent on the adverts, looked like there was a lot of action. You see it all on the advert. Alot of the time in the film Shifty and i think it was Chrissy, sit there and watch people smoke crack. And Chrissy (apologies if i have his name incorrect) is a right wimp throughout most of the film. I didn't rate it, i once read a review that it made rock'n'rolla look poor, this makes rock'n'rolla seem a lot better than before. It's an ok watch, but not highly recomended.

Better than average

Dungbeetle from , 28th February, 2010

A better than average Brit gangster film with strong performances throughout. A gritty version of modern London which doesnt fall short like many Brit films of late.

different

muski from , 26th February, 2010

this film is different in so much as it shows the watcher a side of life that perhaps we do not need or want to know about, drugs etc. good adult film worth a watch
