A Wonderful Love Story

Katrina from , 6th March, 2009

I saw this film at the cinema, and it wasn't just me saying it was a great film. I overheard everyone leaving the cinema, and everyone was saying that it was fantastic. I wouldn't consider myself a royalist (and didn't know anything about Queen Victoria), however I still thoroughly enjoyed this film of her younger years. The acting was superb, the costumes stunning and the locations superb. You also couldn't beat the fabulous music, in particular the choir rendition of 'Zadok The Priest' which gave me goosebumps. Don't think for a second that as it is a period film there is a lot of doom and gloom, because it is quite the opposite. This is a beautiful love story, with quite a lot of humour in it. Overall as far as period drama's go, this is one of the best. One of my favourite scenes was the ball scene where Princess Victoria and Albert have their first dance. It was a heartstopping moment to say the least, and that is when she realises just how much she likes him. The film shows how lighthearted Victoria was in her younger years with that spring in her step, whilst at the same time pursuing her duty of becoming Queen and knowing her responsibilities. Albert also knows his responsibilities, and is initially thrust upon her, but upon their first meeting is immediately smitten. Albert has plans of how he can help people, in particular the poorer communities. When Queen Victoria's reign is dealt a blow due to her over-reliance and flirtations with Prime Minister Melbourne (and as a result every person in the street is threatening her safety), Prince Albert saves the monarchy and Princess Victoria proposes. They become the perfect partnership, helping each other, and sharing the same vision by helping those less fortunate. Highly Recommended.

A Great Royal Love Story

Songfulfish from from Ramsgate, England, 11th March, 2009

I really enjoyed this film as did my mother (who I dragged to the cinema a few days ago). It is a beautiful movie with a great script, fantastic sets and costumes, and superb acting -particularly from Emily Blunt and Miranda Richardson. I was totally captivated by the story which was made so believable by the amazing actors. Like most people, I knew almost nothing of Queen Victoria's early life before watching this film. I came out of the cinema wanting to research Victoria and trying to remember the little I had been taught at school about her reign. A wonderful movie about a great woman and her love for her prince.

Excellent

egbertnochips from , 17th March, 2009

This is a very easy-on-the-eye way of learning a bit of history. If you like period costume-drama, this is definitely a must. One or two bits were not strictly true (e.g. Prince Albert was NOT injured in an assassination attempt), but I found myself very taken by this film, and only regretful that it didn't pursue Victoria's life a bit further. I hope there will be a sequel.

Stone the crows - what a surprise

A Customer from 2nd row from the back, Lincolnshire, 9th March, 2009

Astonishingly good. So much better than dire, content free 'The Duchess'. Photography in this film is brilliant, actors are all well cast, it tells a coherent story, it doesn't drag. The script is a little jarring in places but not too bad. Expected this to be a vacuous piece of puff notable only for the famous extra & producer. However this is a really enjoyable, solid movie that's actually worth the price of admission.

Young Victoria

I really enjoyed this fim. Great performance from Emily Blunt as Victoria and Rupert Friend was a very believable Prince Albert. It filled in a lot of gaps in what was quite a poignant story.

A fascinating view of what is a much less well known era of the young Victoria's life. Her childhood (briefly) and then focusing upon her accession to the throne, those who influenced her and her love for and marriage to Prince Albert. Lavish in scenery, location and detail, this superbly acted movie, especially young Victoria (Emily Blunt), is a delight to watch. I was left wanting more, wishing that her whole life had been so cleverly portrayed. An interesting view of what the young Victoria faced and how her strength of character was formed. Thoroughly recommended...
