williamsgwynfa from , 28th July, 2009

the story continues in this sequel to the caving horror film of The Descent. the sequel continues the story of Sarah (again played by Shauna Macdonald) who, as the only known survivor of the all-female caving expedition gone horrifically wrong, suffers severe psychological trauma. She accompanies a rescue team back to the cave because Sheriff Vaines is skeptical about her account of events and is convinced Sarah's psychosis hides far darker secrets. Trapped by falling rocks, the rescue party is driven deep into the caverns, and as one by one the fate of the missing girls is revealed. Sarah struggles to stay alive and once again encounters the evil in the deep. Well worth watching!

Better than the first!

A Customer from SW London, 6th December, 2009

It is rare for me to find most movies' follow ups being better than their originals: but this was the case for Descent 2. I was under the impression that at the end of Descent, no one made it out alive, but I was wrong.I found Descent hard to watch as most of the scenes were quite dark, so in that respect this movie was so much better to watch as the lighting was alot better.I found Descent 2 so much interesting because it takes off where the other left off, with everyone looking for the girls. The end is a massive surprise and well thought out especially since by the time the viewer gets to the end we are all relieved that someone managed to get out.....or did they?!

BACK INTO THE ABYSS

MAVERICK from , 1st September, 2009

This sequel to the brilliant Neil Marshall low budget shocker is bigger but not quite as good. That's not to say it's no good..far from it, its actually very good indeed. The film picks up with the survivor Sarah.....hold on she died in the first one?? well that all depends on the version you watched. You see the Americans could not stand the down beat and far superior original ending, so in the U.S version she escaped the horror, as in our version she suffered her fate like the rest of her friends as soon as her torch burnt out, but fare enough, I'll go with that. The problem with the sequel is that it tries to up the ante in the similar way to Aliens, but this makes the film suffer. Aliens worked because it was a different film to the original and expanded the scope. In this it's a case of more of the same and the number of new elements you can count on you hand. This does not destract too much from the enjoyment of the film, as you know exactly what your going to get, brilliant bone crunching gore, amazing splatter and some damn good shocks. This all makes to a very entertainment horror. Don't expect the original master-class in terror as the first but director Jon Harris has turned in a great shocker and a worthy sequel. If you liked the first, you will enjoy this.

lets the first descent down

muggs from , 12th March, 2010

At the end of the first descent knoone servives but in the American version two girls do , this film pickes up directly after the end of the first American version .That shouldnt spoil the film because its only a snall plot difference ( yeh right ) , however the film itself will spoil your veiwing , the first descent is filmed in a very dark atmospheric way that adds to your own fear while watching .The characters are dimensionalan and have persomality that sets the whole film off to an amazeing start and through out you are compelled to watch . But this film has been lets say Americanised in a big way , the characters are floured and the film takes place in the same set of caves but now these caves have some kind lighting and the whole atmosphere is lost .The idea is one of the survivours goes back down with a rescue team to look for the other girls , she has lost her memourie so the creatures dont figure at this point .They find the feeding area full of bones and the camera dropped by the girls , and thats when it all happens , there is a cat and mouse chase around the caves and at one point one creature is killed with a drill ??????(americanisation ) . Is it worth watching ? well if your a fan of the first then that would be a judgement call , if your just into cheap thrills then yes , it has some jumpy bits but lakes substance .Another example of how one good film can be the birth of a real bad franchise ( have you seen wrong turn 3 pah a real BAD film ) .
