Directed by Gregory Hoblit (FRACTURE, PRIMAL FEAR), UNTRACEABLE follows F.B.I. cybercrimes specialist Jennifer Marsh (Diane Lane) as she attempts to track down a serial killer who brazenly displays his murderous deeds on the internet. Aided by fellow agent Griffin Dowd (Colin Hanks) and local detective Eric Box (Billy Burke), Marsh tenaciously hunts for the elusive criminal but as she closes in on her target, he deviously finds ways to get closer to her, all the while killing his victims in increasingly faster fashion.
UNTRACEABLE clearly references a number of renowned thrillers, most notably the SAW films, SEVEN, and SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. Lane's steely, smart, and beautiful heroine ably anchors the film, which also benefits from its appropriately gloomy Portland, Oregon, backdrop. As with any effective suspense movie, the thrill is in the chase, with the cold-blooded killer proving to be quite adept at disguising his real location, even as his disturbingly popular site remains prominently on the web.

A Customer from Spilsby, 19th November, 2008

sorry to say this film is thrilling and acting is good, but the torture scences are over the top. whats next?? like saw series its very distastefull in its content and the way the murders are done, watch if you wish and the story only just shines over this point to me.

Good idea, poorly executed

A Customer from Halesowen, 14th January, 2009

Behind the actual film is a good idea, could have been done so much better in the hands of a different director (eg the director from saw) and maybe a different leading lady. not that i have anythihg against lane, she is solid in the film but isn't given much to work with. the premise is that a person is killing people on the internet is slow an brutual ways, getting off on the numbr of people watching it and this results in a quicker death for the person beig killed. if no one watched they die a very slow and very painful death; obviously everyone tunes in inlcuding the fbi?!?!??!?!!? and thus the story is thrust forward. The torture scenes are inventive, not too gorey but thats about all this film can offer; the supporting cast offer nothing (including the obligatory geek and little child) and the story unfolds thorugh a series of 'dammit i worked that out ages ago!' moments which centres around lane. blu ray doesnt really add anything here as the film is quite dark, it ends abruptly and leaves you feeling like what could and perhaps should have happened, sure it creates conversation but not for the right reasons.

Cyber crimes

A Customer from Harrow, 19th December, 2008

An enjoyable thriller that, while not spectacular, still makes for good entertainment. It must be said this movie is not going to be an easy watch for the squeamish and the dialogue is quite heavy on Internet specific slang, early on in the film you may grow weary and annoyed at its usage but stick with it, the film grows on you and serves up genuinely tense moments in the 2nd and 3rd acts. More disturbing though are the subject matter this film deals with, i.e. the dangerous power of the Internet in our increasingly Internet obsessed society, which goves the movie an all too grim dose of reality.

Untraceable

Aleela from , 12th May, 2009

Untraceable is a very good suspense, the resonating behind the plot is superb, the acting is surprisingly good, but the only real criticism I can levy at this dark moody film is the totally unnecessary cruelty towards the Cat (sorry if this gives anything away) there can be no legitimate reason for depicting violence towards animals, all it does is to show a lack of writing ability on the writers. That said I would highly recommend this film. I would buy it but for the above reason

Nothing new - a poor Saw copy

SM001 from , 31st March, 2009

This film is ok to watch if you have nothing much else to do. It goes over a lot of old ground which was better done by Saw.
