Highlander vs Predator

ExiledKiwi from from Bedford, 8th February, 2009

I started with very low expectations of this movie and it does start out as a action movie by numbers, but once you get beyond the fact that all the Vikings speak with Irish accents it is a decent movie. The characters are pretty one dimensional but then again I wasn't expecting Shakespeare. The action scenes are top notch and the movie moves along at a cracking pace. The director has been influenced by Predator and Highlander which can only be a good thing.

remember highlander 2?

gyl from , 27th February, 2009

highlander vs predator? fair analogy, but if you've seen highlander 2, you may recognize more from that installment of the franchise. that pretty much sums up the plot - spaceman lands on iron age earth and has a big nasty beastie to hunt down. unfortunately, this lacks the action or comic script of predator, the enjoyable plot of highlander or the production values of either. they must have spent a decent whack getting the likes of jim cavieziel, ron perlman and john hurt on board and couldn't afford much else - its got the feel of a made-for-cable movie. some of the characters are miscast too - are we meant to believe that a stick-thin, spaghetti-armed 20 something is a great viking warrior? so formulaic from start to finish, the viewer knows what's coming well before it happens. no shocks or plot twists and the action is downright poor. i gave this 1.5 stars because some fims with 1 star are so bad, they're enjoyable. this is not one of them though.

surprised

Kamtheman from , 2nd September, 2009

Well, I didn't really know what to expect with this. But I have to say, once you get hold of the premise, ignore the slightly cheesy quirks, the action is solid, back plot fun and a very good pace. i enjoyed it. so easily could have been set in more modern settings with super duper budget but a crafty move to set it where and when it is. it's not a 5 star film by any means but earns a solid 3 for a worthwhile action watch. I've seen bigger budget films fall way short of this enjoyment level.

Beowulf goes Sci-fi

A Customer from Southampton, 21st March, 2010

Clever take on the Beowulf legend which mixes sci-fi action with 8th century Norway. Very impressed by the Viking world portrayed here and by the creature effects. The film does a good job of meshing the two genres together but the pacing is a little off in places. Great extras on the DVD as well, including well edited examples of how the live action and CGI were put together.

I loved this film! Very easy to watch and a really interesting variation on an 'historical' theme! I'm adding this to my bought collection.

Plagiarism, but good plagiarism

A Customer from UK, 16th March, 2010

A strange mix of Larry Niven’s monster from The Legacy of Heorot meets Beowulf meets Aliens vs Predator. Not many original ideas in it but it works well on superficial level.
