Nothing makes good-guy non-recidivist offender Cameron Poe happier than the thought of returning to society, where his angelic wife and the equally angelic little girl he's never known are waiting. And nothing makes him angrier than the passel of psychopathic murderers and rapists aboard his prison transport plane--especially when, under the direction of ringleader Cyrus The Virus Grissom, they revolt and hijack their own plane. Fortunately, our hero's been trained by the Army as an elite one-man-fighting-machine, and a dogged Justice Department agent waits on the ground to help him bring the fanatical fly-boys in for a bloody crash landing--in Vegas! A hyperactive Molotov cocktail blended from the frenetic efforts of high-octane action producer Jerry Bruckheimer (The Rock), hipster-schtick screenwriting specialist Scott Rosenberg, and music video director West. Academy Award Nominations: 2, including Best Original Song (How Do I Live), and Best Sound.

Radio Times

Following on from The Rock, this was the film that cemented Nicolas Cage's reputation as one of Hollywood's most unlikely action heroes. It's a topnotch thrill-athon, with Cage as an ex-marine jailed for a murder he committed in self-defence, whose release is interrupted when his flight home is hijacked by a bunch of America's most dangerous felons. Cage's impossibly cool macho posturing is irresistible, as is John Malkovich's sneering, tongue-in-cheek turn as super-criminal Cyrus “the Virus” Grissom. John Cusack and Ving Rhames lend snappy support, while Steve Buscemi steals nearly every scene he is in with an inspired pastiche of Hannibal Lecter. Armed with an entertaining script by Scott Rosenberg, director Simon West has delivered a dynamic debut that's nearly impossible to dislike. The public certainly found it a winning formula — it went on to take more than $200 million around the world.

Halliwell's Film Guide

Uproarious but enjoyable nonsense, marked by much gunfire, loud explosions, over-the-top acting and, when it can be heard, some witty dialogue.

Hope You Have A Pleasant Flight!

Hublet from West Yorkshire, 24th January, 2005

It’s time to all come aboard as big budget Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer delivers another non-stop action overload. A person, who is renowned for spending most of the budget on explosions rather than a decent screenplay, this slice of popcorn is no different. At least you do get plenty of bangs for your buck. So if your looking for something deep and meaningful such as politics or environmental issues, then your onboard the wrong flight.

Con Air is enjoyable “please check your brains at the door” action fodder. Nic Cage scored something of a‘ hatrick’ here by starring in yet another consecutive successful action movie, the other two being The Rock (also from Bruckheimer) and Face-Off.

Complete suspension of logic and disbelief is the order of the day here, as this is yet another pyrotechnically proficient, testosterone fuelled action fest. This is not to say that it does not deliver on other levels. All the actors are clearly relishing their roles and sinking their teeth into throwaway dialogue peppered with some great one-liners. Its this great combination of well orchestrated action and everyone enjoying their roles that keeps the film flying along at the speed of light.

If I’m ever stuck on what movie defines action, then I’ll automatically think Con Air. It’s the perfect antidote to that hard day at the office. Travelling by air has never been this much fun!

Silly - but fun

A Customer from Shropshire, 9th January, 2006

This has everything you could wish for from an action film. It has Nick Cage being broody but kind while beating up the bad guys. It has John Malkovich as an evil genius. It has lots of big set piece scenes in which things explode. It has very sharp dialogue and a decent soundtrack. Overall, it's mindless but it's real fun and I recommend it thoroughly.

Great Action Movie

A Customer from Burton on Trent, 6th March, 2007

This was an excellent action movie with a bit of a story (although highly improbable) and quite a lot of humour.... and the good guys win. I really enjoyed it.. A bit like terminator without the sci fi angle.
