Rick Penning lives life just like he plays rugby--fast, hard-hitting and intense. When life on the edge lands him in jail, prison warden Marcus Tate offers him a chance to get back in the game by playing for his rival, Highland Rugby. Reluctantly Rick joins the team where he must adopt the grueling training schedule and unique code of conduct that Coach Gelwix enforces, or finish out the season behind bars. Egos clash as bitter competitors struggle to become a team. An unlikely brotherhood is formed with his Highland teammates, just as Rick is released from jail and sent back home to rejoin his former team, coached by his overbearing father. Heading into a faceoff with Highland at the National Championship, Rick is forced to choose where his loyalty lies.

Old story freshly presented

A Customer from Carmarthen, 28th September, 2009

This has a familiarity about it - boy having problems with parents and love, using sport to be thoroughly nasty to all and sundry, and then through a sports coach finding redemption in all ways. The difference in the game presented is that it is not American football or baseball but rugby played in an American High School who perform the All Black haka. It took me about 15 minutes before I accepted that this was not set in New Zealand but America. The film is highly moral with just for a change the stress not being solely on winning but on being true to oneself and to one's team mates and team. The setting is Utah and the school is a mormon school though the religous aspect is not rammed down one's throat. All in all a surprisingly enjoyable fan (best to note rugby is my no 1 winter sport)

Gripping

Cazza286 from , 23rd January, 2010

Playing rugby from the age of 7 I didn't think that this would hit the mark. Especially from the US. This is a slow burner - give it time. Ended up really liking the film. A feel-good sports film. Realistic scenes. As in the title - I found it gripping.

I thought this was quite a good film, got it because most of my family are in to rugby, but we all enjoyed the story that went with it
