Even for Pixar, this might be a first: an animated film that contains not only a fully realised world as photorealistic as it is full of wonder, but also the Gargantuan themes and visuals of 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, the stripped-down sad-clown pathos found in classic Buster Keaton comedies, and one of the most moving and simply unique love stories in a long time. Director Andrew Stanton kicked up the visual acuity of an already-stellar Pixar Animation Studios in 2003 with a reflective, refractive, color-shimmery realisation of the oceanic world of FINDING NEMO, which genuinely felt as though it spanned the entire earth. With WALL-E, Stanton replaces an apprehensively fishy estranged journeyer with a love-struck and curious robotic one, allowing the quest for eternal love to expand from a desolate, dust-covered, palpably polluted future Earth and into an even more mysterious abyss: the far reaches of outer space.

With virtually no dialogue, WALL-E's neatly contained vaudevillian first act eerily and tragically introduces the robot of the title as the last living thing on Earth (aside from a little cockroach friend) amidst dilapidated skyscrapers and equally tall compacted trash heaps. WALL-E has developed a tender and inquisitive personality doing what he was built to do day in and day out for the past 700 years--allocate and dispose of human waste--simply because no one turned him off when the human race left the hostile polluted planet. When the directive-oriented Eve robot comes crashing into his life from above, WALL-E immediately becomes infatuated with her, and is willing to follow her to back into dangerous outer space, where two robots gliding through the ether, dancing via fire-extinguisher propulsion, are among the many memorable and grandly romantic moments of an expansively beautiful, deceptively simple story.

Los Angeles Times

Pixar's latest is wonderful and full of wonder [...] Daring and traditional, groundbreaking and familiar, apocalyptic and sentimental, WALL-E gains strengths from embracing contradictions

Pixar raises the bar yet again!

A Customer from Isle of Islay, 5th February, 2009

This is the ninth outing for a full-length animated film by Pixar. After the resounding sucesses of 'Toy Story', 'Finding Nemo', 'Monsters Inc' and others, the guys at Pixar have proven that they have the winning formula. But can they keep it up? More serious than previous outings and with a somewhat bleak ecological warning, 'Wall-E'might have been dark and foreboding if made by someone else. But no, far from it. This film is a delight from start to finish, with genuine warm-heartedness, humour and simply the best animation you have ever seen. It makes 'Toy Story' - which itself looked wonderful - look clunky by comparison. On Blu-Ray, the transfer is flawless. The picture quality is the best I've seen yet, beating my previous favourite 'Casino Royale' into submission. And as usual, both parents and children can thorougly enjoy this film. I watched it with my 4 year old son and we both loved it from start to finish. It has something for everyone and you'd have to have a heart of stone not to enjoy it. I've been waiting for Pixar to go wrong and make a dud, not believing that they could possibly maintain the high standards that they meet and exceed with each release, but they have done it again and in spectacular fashion. Can they keep getting better and better? Oh yes, they most certainly can. Believe it.

Awesome

This film will surpass your expectations without a doubt. With faultless sound and picture (especially on blu ray), great story (with a message) and wonderful characters, this is not to be missed. One of the greats and warrants repeat viewing. How a robot with little dialect can show so much personality is a testament to Pixars writing and story telling. There is something for everyone in this film. Rent now and be whisked away in one of the best sci-fi movies of all time !

clever but for children

Mark Winter from Suffolk, 20th October, 2009

My 8 year old lost interest within the first few minutes, and because I'd paid for it I persevered a lot longer. However I just did not like it. Obviously it's brilliantly made, the graphics and animation are fantastic. However the the plot was just not good enough. It could not gain and keep our interest. It's like the animators are trying to outdo each other technically, but they forget the most important aspect, the plot. I'd much rather have a better plot at the expense of the animation (but then it would be criticised for having poor animation). Definately for the kids (but not mine). Read the other reviews. Most disagree with me.
