We should be glad that this film was made

Paul D from Uxbridge, England, 15th January, 2005

Excellent version of Eleanor H. Porter's story about a young girl who, after the recent death of her father, is left orphaned and goes to live with her cold hearted aunt. Pollyanna's relentlessly optimistic outlook is exemplified by the 'glad game' that she plays. No matter how bad the circumstance, she reasons, you can always find something to be glad about. Gradually, her aunt and the locals are won over by Pollyanna's warm nature. But, wouldn't you know it, tragedy is not far away. This version was originally shown n ITV1 and it makes for a wonderful piece of television. The excellent cast includes Amanda Burton, Kenneth Cranham, Tom Bell and Pam Ferris. Georgina Terry is charming in the title role. If you like a good story with laughter and tears along the way, add this to your list now.

classic!

A Customer from Suffolk, 27th September, 2005

What a wonderful film for girls. Every child should see this one, and grown kids too! Boys might find this a bit sickly sweet though.

A FEEL GOOD MOVIE

A Customer from BRISTOL, 18th August, 2004

This film was a real nice feel good film. It brought a slight tear to my eye. I had to persuade my husband to watch it, as he thought it would be girly film, but he really enjoyed it aswell.
Amanda Burton, was brilliant as usual, and for Pollyanna, i could have taken her out of the screen and kept her at home for good!!

deserves a wide audience

A Customer from Chesham, 7th April, 2008

I first saw this 4 years ago and it stayed with me, as the best films do. I'd never read the book as a child and went straight out to find a copy. It is a pleasure to watch this film with a child (especially a girl aged 7-12) because the casting, acting and direction are first rate and the story bowls along; but it is also perfect for an adult who wants to understand why a book like Pollyanna, published in 1913, can become a classic with a universal appeal to all times and all people. It translates beautifully to the screen. Don't be put off by the name of the film. This is time well spent. It is sentimental, but then so is real life.
