if you loved the first 2 Death Note films....prepare to be dissapointed

NativityInBlack from , 10th January, 2009

the first two films are vastly superior to this spin off, which was made as an offshot of the films and not directly from a manga. you can really tell as it just doesnt feel as intricate as the first 2 movies. but by far the biggest criticism is that for a film about L we dont actually learn anything more about him than we knew from his apperances in the first 2 features, and even though it's teased in Death Note 2 - Last Name and again shown here we dont find out anything about the nature of Watari's relationship to L it wasnt bad, it just wasnt up to the Death Note name

Awesome Film

A Customer from Leeds, 22nd January, 2009

Okay so if you look at it and compare to the other deathnotes you may be disappointed as its nothing like them, but as a seperate film its awesome. Ken'ichi Matsuyama shows even more sides to L and his nature. Thought provoking and funny. We also see that Watari helped many gifted children not just L and assigned them Letters, and L's main enemy is one of those, K.

Just about ok

robocop from , 2nd April, 2009

After reading the mixed reviews, i wasn't expecting much. The film isn't as good as the first 2, but was just about watchable. My favourite bit was when L wore his 'cartoon' mask and typed on hs laptop.

Strange but Brilliant!

Gekkou9912 from from Birmingham, 4th March, 2009

This film is brilliant. Although at first i got a bit confused, because of how different it is to the originals, but none-the-less its great. Again, like the original Death Note's, it has lots of twists and turns, that will keep you guessing 'Whats going to happen next?!' Thumbs up, Definate rental. Bought it few days after renting, so worth it ^-^

It's different but not in a bad way

Sparrowsabre7 from , 23rd January, 2010

The 'Death Note' movies were never the best films made, and much less faithful than the superior animé adaptation, but they provided an enjoyable alternate look on the world of 'Death Note.' 'L: Change the WorLd' centres on L's last few days after 'The Last Name' in which he tries to prevent a virus from wiping out humanity. From the get go, you can tell this is a film that does not take itself seriously and so long as you realise that, you should have fun with it. This film is to 'Death Note' what the Adam West 'Batman' is to 'The Dark Knight.' It's very much a B-movie on all levels, there's even a guy who amounts to a Bond villain in this, with weird facial scarring and everything. There are so many unintentionally hilarious moments in this film, such as L's weird typing and running, and a rather prolonged death from on of the minor characters. There's also an obscene amount of unnecessary 'engrish' as the Japanese actors frequently start talking in really broken English for no apparent reason. This makes the film much more laughable than its relatively serious predecessors. In spite of this, or rather, because of this, I had a lot of fun with it. Sure on a technical level it's quite poor, but with regards to enjoyment, I certainly had a good time.

Great!

zombiegrrrl from , 7th December, 2009

I loved Death Note 1 & 2, especially the charectar of L. This film doesnt really have anything to do with the death note but is still very good with a good story.

See the other two first

William Brown from Edinburgh, 8th August, 2009

Wonderfull stuff but if you haven't seen the two Death note films (both very good as well) get them first or this will make next to no sense. This is is an excellent finale to the story (or is it really the end?) and well worth watching. L is one of the greatest characters ever created and the actor here manages to portray him brilliantly. Even the story stands up to mild scrutiny which is more than you can say about most films these days.
