A film which takes a closer look at the story behind the creation of Albert Einstein's general theory of relativity and the personal lives of the men behind it.

This human story chronicles two men who, during the First World War, refused to accept narrow nationalistic boundaries and, against the odds, continued to strive for a greater truth. Between them, they changed the world and proved one of the biggest scientific breakthroughs of the 20th century.

Much Ado About Nothing

It is bizarre that the BBC made this and even more bizarre that they tried to sensationalise what were fairly unimportant events. Einstein and Eddington were essentially boring and dour people. They corresponded during war-time when England v Germany was playing, but this was not the terrible crime for scientists portrayed in this film. The acting and production are good, but as with most BBC productions of late the screen play is rubbish. The portrayal of Einstein as a robust man (he was more of a weedy swot) is way off mark and the treatment of Eddington's homosexuality is laughable.

BBC at it's best

Einstein and Eddington really is the BBC at it's best, it's wonderfully made, very well scripted and really gives you an insight into their lives and the period. I'm very science minded so for me the 'sciencey' bits were great as you get to see how the theories evolved and how/why it was such a big deal at the time. My wife struggled a little with those bits but on the whole thoroughly enjoyed it because the science was well balanced with what was going on in their personal lives, and the period in general. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would!

A very interesting insight into the lives of these two men. Although, overdramatised and not completely accurate; it's well worth watching. Good for the science, the period and the history. However, it portrays Einstein as a man a lot different to the way he really was.
