The Lemon Tree

A very interesting film. You really sympathise with and admire the palestinian widow who enters a futile struggle to keep her lemon grove. You wonder why she does it, but realise that it represents all that is important to her. One small story amongst many more in that part of the world.

The film is visually stunning and has a moving story. I thought it would be very biased poltically and it is to an extent but also shows the exploitation of the individual by both sides. It is slow moving and not of interest to anyone who likes a bit of action!

A poetic and illuminating film that highlights the absurd cruelties of the Israeli/Palestine conflict. Wonderful acting.

Film about conflict

A Customer from London, 8th March, 2010

Based on a real life event, the film features lemons instead of olives. Hiam Abbass is convincing as the lonely Palestinian widow who fights to save her lemon grove when the Israeli Defence Minister moves into the house next door, and wants to cut the trees down because they pose a security threat. Throughout the film her actions are surveyed by the eyes of her dead husband whose picture hangs upon her wall, and those of the local village elder who advises her to give in. Can right win over might? This is an engaging and touching film about conflict.

Rather dull

A Customer from Oxfordshire, UK, 20th February, 2010

Ok is about the most I would say. I felt sympathetic towards the widow, who is clinging resentfully to her sad past rather than giving it up and starting again elsewhere, but I can't say I found the story very engaging.

Very poignant from both sides especially the women. Topical and thought provoking in light of current situation in the Middle East.

Thoughtful and sad, but beautiful

mdexterlilly from , 21st December, 2009

Very interesting film, interestingly shot. Main actress was stunningly good. Most terrible thing was that even the men who should have supported her - actually could not care less. And, ulimately, the wall went up so the ruin of her lemon grove with the accompanying grief, was completely unnecessary. NOt a story to leave me feeling happy, but it was well worth watching.
