Fresh from winning the Tiger Award at the Rotterdam Film Festival, Wonderful Town is a film about a rural community following the aftermath of the tsunami which destroyed the tourist industry. Local girl, Na runs a small hotel where every day is more of less the same until one day Ta arrives. Ta is an architect from the city who has come to oversee the building of a new development and very slowly the two build a friendship that develops into something more romantic

A certain type

A Customer from The North, 9th October, 2009

A gentle, evocative film with a little underlying tension. Has a similar mood to Last Life in The Universe or Cafe Lumiere, allowing the viewer to enter the characters world via an interest in them rather than any great story.

Winningly subtle love story

This film presents its tale ever so 'softly,softly catchee monkey' but does not suffer for it, for all that. I loved the gradual build up of mutual love between the two chief protagonists, and delighted in the lack of distraction of any other sub-plots. I would happily spend another cold, winter evening stuck indoors with the heating on and 'curled up in front of the fire' revisiting this. Good performances by the leading actors. Just 'nice'....
