Nick Stoller's FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL is a romantic disaster comedy produced by the same team that made such hits as THE 40-YEAR-OLD VIRGIN and KNOCKED UP, headed by writer, director, and producer Judd Apatow. When he gets suddenly and unceremoniously dumped by his longtime girlfriend, television star Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell, VERONICA MARS), composer Peter Bretter (Jason Segel, FREAKS AND GEEKS) is devastated. Miserably depressed, he seeks solace in tawdry one-night stands, but he is desperate to win Sarah back. On the advice of his stepbrother, Brian (SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE's Bill Hader), Peter heads off to Hawaii for a much-needed vacation, but he gets even more freaked out when he discovers that Sarah and her new beau, wild and wacky British singing sensation Aldous Snow (Russell Brand, PONDERLAND), are staying there as well. Mired in sadness, Peter is befriended by hotel employee Rachel Jansen (THAT 70S SHOW's Mila Kunis), who encourages him to get back his life and pursue his own dreams, which include staging a Dracula musical with puppets. But Peter is blinded by his desire for Sarah even as he grows closer to Rachel and starts hanging out with some of the hotel's odder personalities, including Chuck (Paul Rudd), a drug-addled surf instructor, and Matthew (SUPERBAD's Jonah Hill), a drug-dealing restaurant worker obsessed with Snow. Segel wrote the screenplay, a sharp blend of comedy and drama, and is solid in his first major starring role. Stoller, making his feature-film directorial debut, gets the most out of his diverse cast and beautiful setting, especially Jack McBrayer and Maria Thayer as a newlywed couple having some bizarre sexual problems, and Billy Baldwin as Sarah's co-star in the television show CRIME SCENE: SCENE OF THE CRIME. FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL is an outrageously funny yet touchingly sweet movie.

Not a chick flick

CBRENCH from from Bristol, 22nd October, 2008

I went to watch this in the cinema. I did not know much about this film but assumed it was a chick flick - which i dont like at all. Instead i found this to be such a funny film full of inuedos and laughed my socks off and have ordered the dvd to watch with my hubby Its a film that has several levels of comedy. Its a sit back, dont think too much about it film although the story line was ok and so was the acting it certainly had some substance. Russell Brand was actually quite impressive as i thought he would stand out like a sore thumb in a film but actually blended in quite well and obvisouly had a lot of the comedy lines, although the main male charecter certainly held his own. A thoroughly enjoyable and suprisingly funny film. I cant wait to watch it again and hope it stands up to how i remember it. Just watch it!

Highly recommended!

My friend has been banging on at me for a good year about watching this film. Between being pregnant, getting married and having a baby I kinda lost track of time and have only just watched it. IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT! I loved this film. Don't get me wrong, its not deep, clever or particularly intelligent, but it is funny. Typical rom-com storyline with Jason Segel as the male protaganist. I would definitely watch it again. Enjoy!

Forgetting to think..

thefoolangel from from London, 25th January, 2010

This was an (overall) pretty average film. It had some brilliantly funny moments, peaks in the mountain range of this film.. but it was mostly valleys. Weird characterisation, odd plot choices, a poorly controlled effort that sometimes runs along standard teen/rom-com lines but then veers off to experiment with alternative takes on it. Sometimes it worked but more often it was just a bit weird and confusing.. not in a pleasantly surprising way.. just a bit confused.. A lot of: 'What am I supposed to be feeling right now?'.. You need to be able to master the genre before you can start getting creative with it.. Worth a look, but go in with low expectations.

Hang on, this is quite good.

Bilbosdad from , 23rd January, 2010

Yep. Has to be said. My shock may surprise you, but i work for the BBC, and Russell Brand is something of a joke amongst us simple folk, so to see him actually being enjoyable in this film was a bit of a kick in the teeth. That being said, the Blu Ray looks amazing, it really illustrates the beauty of America's often forgotten tropical state. It has excellent depth, lush hues, and nice contrast. Even though the ending is something of a let down, you won't forget Sarah Marshall anytime soon.
