Like the 2003 animated short films of the same name, STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS reveals what happened during the conflicts of the title, which are set between EPISODE II: ATTACK OF THE CLONES and EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH. Unlike the former series, this CLONE WARS feature film uses computer animation--rather than more traditional 2-D animation--to tell its tales. The action centres on Obi-Wan Kenobi (voiced by James Arnold Taylor), Anakin Skywalker (Matt Lanter), and precocious new Jedi recruit Ahsoka Tano (Ashley Eckstein), as they face off against the sinister Separatist forces led by Count Dooku (the legendary Christopher Lee, who reprises his role from the live-action movies). The film also features appearances by such beloved characters as Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson, also of EPISODES II and III), C3PO (Anthony Daniels), and Yoda (Tom Kane).
Directed by Dave Filoni (AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER), THE CLONE WARS shares the same era and characters as the 2003 series, but is stylistically quite different, with a blocky look influenced in part by the marionettes of the 1960s U.K. show THUNDERBIRDS. While the voices of actors such as Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christiansen, and Frank Oz are missed, their successors handle their mantles well, confidently leading the heroes in fierce battles and tense chases. Though diehards of the original STAR WARS trilogy may shrug their shoulders at the CGI wizardry, young fans will find much to enjoy in this action-packed movie, which promises to be continued in a regular Cartoon Network TV series.

A missed opportunity! One for the kids, not die hard Star Wars fans

Jonathan Pounder from Hartlepool, 14th August, 2008

To sum it up in one sentence - this film has the love child of Jabba the Hutt and South Parks' Cartman. No opening Star Wars title, no Star Wars music, Christopher Lee not sounding like Christopher Lee, the Jedi wanting a truce with Jabba the Hutt, Anakin with a Padawan; a baby Jabba the Hutt. The film sits between episodes 2 and 3 but there is very little interlinking them, this film is more targetted at children and the upcoming cartoon series. Die hard Star Wars fans actually left the cinema in disgust during the film - thats how bad it gets! If you are a fan and want to watch this film, dont expect to much. This film had huge potential, sadly it fell well sort of the mark. If you are a young person then you will love it!

star wars!

R000ORY from , 30th March, 2009

NONSENSE!!!! Lets get this right...This is a sequel?? hahahaha dont make me laugh...this has absolutely none of the main characters from the first film and nor does it have any conceivable story like its predecessor..Its set in prison where appropriately all the main football firms are living together in close quarters...also the firms are setup in the same cells as each other and to cap??? I mean am I the only one here that thinks thats absurd?? To cap it all off the acting is appauling and theres nothing here that interests you unless your thing is mindless fighting for no apparent reason...No wonder this one went straight to DVD release...ABSOLUTE RUBBISH!!

Less embarassing than the prequels

TheFlaneur from , 16th October, 2008

Ok. Most of you reading this are going to be adults. You're also going to think that this film is a pile of poo. I went to see this film expecting to be buttock clenchingly embarassed and guess what? I wasn't. Firstly you must lower your expectations young Padawan You are never going to get that original feeling of awe back which you had when you were a young Star Wars fan. Yes it is a kids film and lets face it, Star Wars films are always kid's film. The greatest pleasure I get from Star Wars now is watching it with my kids and seeing the wonder in their faces I had when I saw the first film in 1977(thats 1st not 4th). As for the adult star wars fans, get over it and go and watch some Godard or Fellini if this is too kiddy for you. The story may be a bit dodgy but, at least Lucas has allowed other peoples creative influence on this film. The prequels suffered because there was too much Lucas in them and really they became pastiche of the first three originals. This on the other hand is at least trying to do something different. The animation is great and I feel that the prequels should have been made as animation like this, as those films really are very cartoon in style. Strangely Anakin is no less wooden in cartoon format than the real actor who plays him. It is gret to see a little bit of banter and humour in Clone Wars. I think the prequels also suffered by being too po-faced. Overall a pleasant surprise

It's just like another film for kids from cartoon network

Picktokyo from from London, England, 21st August, 2008

I'm a hard core starwars fans. I think, this movie is ok IF it just a home video movie or as a promo release. But as a movie this is a disappointment. It can't be compared to any of the starwars movie before. This movie is just for kids, the dialogs also immature. Its just not right.

George Lucas just doesn't care about us anymore

IveLostR2 from , 18th January, 2010

There's a really interesting moment over the studios' logos at the very beginning of this film. It's the sound of Clone Troopers over the radio; calling for back up; barking orders; interspersed with the sound of blaster fire. It's surprisingly dark and foreboding and really caught my attention. Such a shame then that once the film begins it quickly becomes an insipid, kid-baiting mess of boring, plotless tosh. It's an insult to Genndy Tartakovsky's splendid Clone Wars cartoons. They did a better job of showing the conflict in Anakin Skywalker than any of the feature films, and here it's non-existent - he's a good guy, and that's that. I also found it detestable that they've decided to disregard the story from Tartakovsky's cartoons and rewrite it here; far, far poorer. Perhaps most annoying is that just as the prequels did with the original trilogy, this story clashes with what we've already been told. The story is of Anakin meeting his Paduan learner. Oh, come on. You remember her don't you? She crops up in Revenge of the Sith? She's even mentioned in a New Hope? No? Well, of course you don't BECAUSE SHE NEVER EXISTED BEFORE! Also, Anakin and Dooku have a lightsaber fight, even though it's heavily implied in Revenge OTS that they haven't met since the end of Attack of the Clones. And do we REALLY need to visit the Hutts and Tatooine AGAIN? The most disspiriting thing about it is how clearly it signals that George Lucas just isn't interested in pleasing the long-term fans anymore, this is aimed squarely at the younglings, who only really want to know that the goodies beat the baddies, and don't really care about gaping plot holes and contradictions. This is about expanding the Star Wars legacy in no other way than commercially.

Very much enjoyed

KingWalshington from , 18th January, 2010

Major star wars fan and more of a fan of the new material (im sure that wont go down to well), but I wont knock the classics. This however i was extemley skeptable of since it was a cartoon version and I would rather have seen another installment with actors. The film is gripping and along with all the star wars noises and music it really did feel like the real product. The only problem, it was a cartoon. If filmed with actors, this would have been super cool! Kids will love it and im sure so will the fans.
