Moustapha Akkad's THE MESSAGE tells of the beginnings of the Muslim religion. A compelling drama about an ancient and venerable culture, the epic film stars Anthony Quinn as the uncle of the prophet Mohammed.

Rating of 2 stars out of 5
Radio Times

Also known as Mohammed, Messenger of God, this three-hour epic re-creates the feudal life and times of the seventh-century leader of the religious movement that became known as Islam. Whatever sense of drama director Moustapha Akkad might have intended to create is undercut by the decision — as with early films of Christ — not to show the prophet himself, but instead have Anthony Quinn, as his uncle Hamza, an honoured warrior, take centre stage. Nonetheless the film caused an uproar among the faithful for daring to tell the tale at all. Non-believers may well find it sprawling and reverentially tedious.

Great movie...but

Customer2005 from UK, 9th April, 2005

...I found the Arabic version (I'm a speaker) superior and more emotional than the English version, due to the authenticity, relevance & grammatical eloquence of the former language to the subject matter. Nonetheless, credit where it's due, the film was a bold effort to tell one of the great stories in a truthful, non-offending way. Recommended to those even with a very slight interest in religious history/events.

Propaganda film

Arinna from , 17th March, 2010

It's so wrong and painful.Done for some kind of Islamic propaganda. We all know that the view of the Islamic women for women rights, equality to men is totally in the favour of men.

The message

A Customer from Belfast, 28th July, 2009

This was an amazing film! very exciting:) good acting... A fun drama telling the story of prophet Muhamad peace be upon him, it highlights some of the main parts, and also intreduces some people that were from his time, however it doesn't show the prophet Muhamad peace be upon him. Even if you are a muslim, this film will bring the history to life and give you a feel of the story of Prophet muhamad peace be upon him. A lot is still untold. But the message is clear. hope you all enjoy this film as much as i did. And God knows best.
