Disappointing

KJDA from , 24th November, 2009

Usually I'm the first in line for a film that is quirky or unusual and more often than not loving it when most others just can't see the point. The Informant! however was the first exception for some time - dull and disappointing about sums it up for me I'm afraid. It was filmed as though set in the 70's that did not fit with the setting of the story which was the 90's through to the current decade. I've read in another review that that is okay because it does take place in Illinois and not in the more sophisticated Eastern States. Not keen on that statement having lived there myself in the 90's, it might not be New York but the Mid-West does not live in a different era! There were some mildly amusing scenes in the film, the narration by Whitacre, who is the informer, over much of the film was a clever way to 'hear' his thoughts. Over all I would not recommend this one as a must see.

Top actors, Low enjoyment

Raiddon from , 7th December, 2009

I was looking forward to this movie, since Matt Damon is a great actor in my opinion, sadly i was not at all amused with this movie and it was deffinately a set back for some good actors. I was in America when i first saw this over 2 months ago, and after i watched it, i had realised the trailer was misleading, i only found two parts in the movie where i barely snickered, i woud not class this as a comedy more as a life story about something thats suppose to be made serious, it felt like it dragged on and was slow. i think the only thing that sold this movie was the actors names, nothing more. deffinately not worth the money at the Cinema, Sorry.

Enjoyable

Mosco from , 12th January, 2010

I enjoyed this. I just think it's a great story and it's well told. I didn't find it funny and was surprised to see it classed as a comedy but it was humourous at times just with the absurdity of the main characters actions who is excellently played by Matt Damon. If you don't know it's based on the true story of Mark Whitacre who exposed a price-fixing scandal in the corn industry in the early nineties and like I said his story is a good one. Worth watching for sure.

The ending will surprise you

Chantal from , 10th February, 2010

At the beginning you think this is about some kind of 1970s crusade of an employee against their Goliath management but then you realise that all your preconception are in the drain. Not everyone is what they seem and even though the film tries to put a comical spin to it, the story is quite sad. I bet you'll never guess the twist. I certainly didn't and you'll kick yourself for believing that all you see or hear is true.

Bizzarely disappointing

Benhuczek from , 3rd January, 2010

Take a look at the production team, the cast and add that to the true-ish story as a piece of faction, and you might think that a decent silk purse of a movie could be made. Didn't really get passed the pig's ear. I started uneasily with the music. It had a quasi-Benny Hill style to it, almost as if we were going to expect an Ealing Comedy Caper. All the way through, the incidental music just wasn't right. The screenplay did manage to make the FBI looks amazingly amateur, under-resourced and ill-equipped to undertake the investigation and I suspect that in many ways, it's closer to the truth of the matter than we would like to think. Is it worth a watch? Just about - but it'll be on TV almost before it makes DVD!
