Wow.

A Customer from Belfast, 25th November, 2008

This is very probably the funniest film I have even seen. I went with a group of eight or so friends, and not one of us found any flaw in this film at all. It is literally a perfect film. Not only is it hilariously funny, there are sweet moments, there are dramatic moments, this could be a perfect film. Seriously, honestly, this film made me struggle not to wet my pants. It was amazing. I cannot even convey in words how freakin' funny it is, just go see it. Twice.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno

A Customer from Tonbridge, 18th November, 2008

Kevin Smith's latest is a big step back. All the characters speak with one vioce (Smith's), and their dialogue is seldom funny, and even when it is funny they're chuckles, not belly laughs. The acting is generally pretty bad, with Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks especially unconvincing and the film looks just as flat as Smith's others. Most disappointing is the writing of the women, who are less people than walking adolescent fantasies. However real life porn star Katie Morgan is a surprising bright spot, putting in a sweetly dim turn. Want to see this subject done better? Rent The Moguls.

Worth a Watch

MikeSteel from from Stockton-on-Tees, 24th March, 2009

Firstly, this is better than Seth Rohen's previous release Pineapple Express as it funnier and that's what comedys are supposed to be.

I have read other people's reviews on here and some have said there is bad acting in here which i really don't agree with, although it isn't Oscar quality. Others have said the story line is bad, lets face it, this is a comedy so it's supposed to be an easy watch so who wants twists and turns thats going to leave us (the audience) confused?

The first hour was very good and the last half hour was predictable.

Overall review: Popcorn movie to watch with friends/partner etc.

P.S. Some very sexy scenes :) Luckily for us though none with Seth Rogen.

Not funny enough

A Customer from Reading, 15th November, 2008

The film follows a bunch of folk who decide to shoot a porno in order to pay their bills. As such the film tries to send up porno movies and the mishaps that can happen as a bunch of amateurs get together to shot a porno - I mean what could go wrong -right? However, the film is just not funny enough. There are more gags in the genre it tries to send up. There are funny scenes and there is one in particular which had the whole cinema laugh out loud, but for the running time, there are simply not bangs to the buck and a sentimental romantic comedy emerges which blunts the edge of the comedy. Many of Kevin Smith's regular ensemble cast make an appearance, but the film is shorn from the New Jersey background of Clerks, Jay and Silent Bob Stikes BAck and so on. This means it loses out on some of the ditinctiveness of Kevin Smith's other movies. Clerks, Jay and Silent Bob Stike Back and Clerks 2 are far funnier than this, I think this is one to avoid, even if you are a die-hard Kevin Smith fan.

Kevin Smith makes a Rom-Com... I think?

Wesley Winegarden from Hor, 13th March, 2010

Fans of director Kevin Smith's earlier work will recognize some of the elements of his earlier work. Sadly though like Chasing Amy, Zack and Miri ran out of steam about three quarters of the way through and turns into a very predictable Rom-Com. Which is not to say this is a terrible film, it is far from it. There are some moments of side-splitting humour, but it just lacks a bit of the KS magic as can be seen in Clerks. Jason Mewes though is in fine form, and I hope to see much more from Kevin Smith's Mewes!

Zack and Miri Make a Porno

Caddy27 from , 13th March, 2010

An OK film that relies heavily on swearing and obvious characters. Zack and Miri have a nice relationship and the actors have chemistry, but the switch from making a porno to schmaltzy love story is pretty quick. There are a least four laugh out loud moments and it not a totally wasted hour and a half.

Zack and Miri will make you laugh

BarnsleyFan from , 13th March, 2010

If one sentence had to sum up my thoughts on this film, I'd go with 'Better than I thought it would be'. The premise, as you probably know, is that two hard up platonic friends are down on their luck and have to resort to the hair brained scheme of making pornography in order to keep the lights on. The first half of the film is the funny half. The pairing of Seth Rogan and Elizabeth Banks works really well - they are believable as the platonic couple left on the shelf - even if Banks is probably a little bit too hot for that role in actuality. That being said, they manage to cover for Banks being too hot by making Miri a social cringe maker, and inserting her into the fun of a school reunion right off the bat is always going to be comedy gold. Rogan's character is likeable and witty. Both Zack and Miri are comfortable, foul mouthed, and enjoyable to watch. I really enjoyed the first half of the movie, which is where the best comedy lines are placed. Once they get past the casting scenes it starts to unravel into a bland romantic comedy which is predictable and not that funny at all. You sort of think - I've got this far, and I kind of like the characters, so I'll stay with it. Although you'll also realise that you haven't really laughed in a while. Jason Mewes is of course in this film because it's written and directed by Kevin Smith. Who else would pick this one trick pony? Mewes and Smith must be really good buddies because Mewes just delivers the same dry dead-beat performance. One day someone will ask him to play someone who isn't a dead-beat and he'll just play a dead-beat regardless. I've given this film three and half stars because, basically, it'll make you laugh and it's a reasonable enough way to spend a evening.
