not good, dont expect anthing great

A Customer from England, 12th July, 2008

very disappointing considering Roegs other works wikipedia states this to be a £7,000,000 production, that just cant be true. looks like a made for tv movie but worse, honestly im not being cynical, its just bad. if i rated 'dont look now' as harshly as i could (but i cant cos its great), puffball would still be thousands of time worse, please let me know if i am missing something here id wait for the rest of the bad reviews to come in first before you go see it, like i did. at least watch some trailers or clips on youtube before you entrust this film with entertaining you for an evening i recommend spending your money on roegs better works if youve not seen them

When I saw the name Nicholas Roeg with Rita Tushingham and Donal Sutherland I thought it should be good. Put it this way if you are told you have 2 hours left to live don't spend it watching this rubbish. If there was an award for worst actress of the century then Kelly Reilly would walk it. She is truly awful and goodness knows how she gets acting roles The 'plot' is ludicrous the acting even from the normally excellent Miranda Richardson is amateurish at best and as for Kelly Reilly........

Don't look now or ever...

Whipster from from Shropshire, 8th March, 2010

Truly dire outing from Nic Roeg. Hard to believe he made this choice - even more hard to believe is that anyone actually funded it's production! Drab setting is perfectly matched to the drab storyline - it's so dull it's not even worth describing in any detial. The supposed supernatural twist involving a 'puffball' is so flimsy and poorly managed that it wouldn't have mattered if it had been left out. In fact as a TV drama the thing would maybe have worked better! Kelly Reilly is gorgeous but she can't save this car crash of a movie. 0.5 stars.

the starey dog had the best part

A Customer from Winchester, 28th February, 2010

A disappointing sex and mud fest with some really gross gorey bits. The flinty eyed Liffey could out-pout Keira Knightley and by the end I wasn't interested in whose baby it was, could have been Barry Manilow's for all I cared. Miranda Richardson did her best but her talents were wasted. Rita Tushingham's 'I lurk about in an unflattering woolly hat so I can't be trusted' type of character has been seen in plenty of films already. For what reason did they send Tucker over to do his dirty work? Was Donald Sutherland's character supposed to be in it or did he just wander on set because he was filming 2 miles up the road? Why did Liffey go to lunch with the crazy family when she had a fair inkling they didn't have baby's best interests at heart? I'm really confused. I read the book when it was first published so am a bit hazy on details, but I do remember it being far more creepy, thought provoking and gripping than this. I don't know how old the actress playing the older daughter is, but she's supposed to be 14 in the film and her (admittedly brief) nakedness was inappropriate. The cute fake baby bump jutting straight out from a handspan ribcage got me really waspy and the best lines were definitely from the starey dog.
