superb............................

williamsgwynfa from , 9th September, 2009

this is a superb film which stars John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Danny Glover, Thandie Newton, Oliver Platt, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Woody Harrelson. In '2012' a global cataclysm occurs which leads to the end of the world and has the survivors struggling for their lives, while a US government agency called the 'Institute for Human Continuity' attempts to use ships to ensure the survival of the human race. The inspiration for this film is inspired by several hypotheses that stated that the ancient Mayan predicted that a doomsday event would occur sometime around the 2012 northern hemisphere winter solstice. The director of this movie is Roland Emmerich who directed the films Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow.

Slightly insulting! (contains spoilers)

Just back from watching this at the cinema and first of all yes, the special effects and action sequences in it are excellent, especially the first part of the film (in the limo and the plane) I know this is a 'popcorn flick' but the film is just plain stupid, and gets worse as it goes on, just one completely stupid escape after another. The filmaker seems to treat the audience with as if they are all completely thick. Case in point, towards the end when the ark is going to crash into the mountain, one of the charactors says they are about to crash into the mountain, there are repeated shots of the ark going towards the mountain and if that didnt make it obvious enough for you the director spells it out by putting a computer graphic of an ark and a mountain on the screen with the word 'Impact' and a big red arrow pointing to where the impact is going to be (ah so you mean they are going to crash into the mountain???? I'd never of guessed!) Watch it if you liked all Emerichs other films but dont expect to be treated as an intelligent viewer.

Special effects, nothing else.

Storywise this movie makes little to no sense, but as you already know its about the end of the world via enviromental disasters. This movie is let down by movie clich'es and so called 'tense' moments that have all been copied and pasted from about 100 other movies (like the disfunctional family from War of the worlds). Another example is the 'corrupted offical' worring about money....but where does he think he can spend it?! Expect this movie to be similar to a blonde bimbo. good looks, no substance!

A disaster

Whipster from from Shropshire, 12th March, 2010

'The Day after tomorrow' was a believable and well conceived movie with stunning CGI effects - the total opposite of this dire outing. The main problem is the difficulty in deciding if this was supposed to be a family movie or not!!! Obviously it shouldn' t have been - but thats what it feels like, a family adventure - but surely the worlds population is being destroyed, surely thats not a good subject for a family 'adventure'? I feel this was a very badly misjudged concept. Add to that the CGI being shockingly false in places and the action sequences totally ridiculous - all of them like the 'chases' you'd find in an Indiana Jones movie - and you're onto a loser. And of course when the world does end it will be the good old USA that is responsible for saving humanity - yeah right! Very poor movie considering the vast budget spent on it. A catastrophic 2 stars.

i have watched this film and i can honestly say oh my god. no it wasn't that good. i think that roland emerich hates the earth! every film after independence day he has done he has showed the earths destruction in some form or another.
