The Silence of Lorna

A Customer from Tonbridge, 13th January, 2009

The Dardennes are never going to make an action movie, and many audiences will find The Silence of Lorna gruelling in its lack of plot, and its obsession with the minutiae of its title character's day to day life. For its first 45 minutes, though, this is excellent stuff. Sadly almost all life goes out of the film when Jeremie Renier's character leaves the story midway through and Lorna's story becomes less and less believeable, in spite of an excellent turn from Arta Dobroshi. Still, 45 minutes of an excellent movie is more than you'll have seen most times you've been to the cinema of late.

not quite what I was expecting

A Customer from OXON, 26th May, 2009

Jeremie Renier continues to provide a strong and 'gritty' performance. However, without him, this film just became slow and un-focussed. Additionally, as I could not warm to the other central charactors, I couldn't really engage with the film at all.

I just don't get it !

A Customer from london, 6th February, 2010

I don't understand why this movie has been lauded so much by the critics and the jury at Cannes Festival. I am French, I do love art house features but I sincerely fail to get moved by the Dardennes brother's work. I got moved ( a bit) by The Child but I found Le Silence De Lorna an utter bore. I watched it until the end so I could make an informed decision on whether I liked the movie or not. The end is what I hated the most about the film, I won't spoil it although there is nothing to spoil. I definitely won't recommend this movie.
