Time Out

Some films are touching despite their overly direct, even crude, tugging at our emotions. And many people will no doubt...

Disappointing

A Customer from Bromley, Kent, 19th December, 2008

Sorry, it didn't do it for me. Although the preview and the cast looked good, I found the film disappointing. I haven't read the book but I thought there was no real development to the story or the characters in the movie, and it just became a bit boring.

Loved it :)

Lynne Manjengwa from Nottinghamshire, 7th April, 2009

The whole family enjoyed this family though it wasn't as appreciated quite so much by my husband (he fell asleep briefly!). It's possibly more suited for women as the film revolves around women and their relationships. I loved the quiet dignity of the black women despite living with deep rooted racism. I had read the book a few years ago which may have helped - I would definitely recommend this film - it is moving, emotional and sentimental yet addresses some disturbing issues.

Excellent

cantibemyself from , 30th April, 2009

I read the book some years ago and loved it - possibly my favourite read that year. I therefore approached the movie thinking it couldn't possibly be as good - but it was! Well, almost - you can't capture every thought, act and emotion in a 110 min movie as in a book that takes much longer to read. However the movie was true to the essence of the story and beautifully recreated the time of the black civil rights movement in the USA. The only criticism was that at times I found it hard to hear the words because of accent and speed of speech. This is a great story. If you have the time, read the book first. Otherwise don't miss this movie.

Watch the movie but the book is much better

mel from uk, 16th March, 2010

What happened here is a classic trying to cram a slow well written book into 1hr 40. This is a movie that could have been long and ok but instead it was short and pointless.

The Beautiful Life of Bees

Fantastic film. Beautiful and faithfull retelling of the book story, filled with touching scenes creating stong emotional responces (I cried!). Get it and if you have any feelings for the fate of others in need, you'll love it.
