Black and Cera have something else in common: They are both very skilled, very precise comedians. In the case of Black, this is well known, and in the case of Cera, it's no surprise, considering his performance in 'Superbad'. Still, it's a striking thing to find a 21-year-old actor with such self-assurance, such innate timing and such a thorough understanding of himself as a screen entity […]'Year One' [...] it's always lively. After 30 years of writing and sometimes directing some very fine comedies ('Groundhog Day', 'Analyze This', 'Caddyshack', 'Ghostbusters', 'Animal House', 'Stripes'), Ramis knows exactly what it takes to hold an audience's attention in comedy. Every character is made vivid and absurd

Time Out

Set at the dawn of humanity (sort of), a time of hunter-gatherers, peasant farmers and idol-worshipping Sodomites,...

superb..............................

williamsgwynfa from , 15th June, 2009

this comedy film set in Biblical times stars Jack Black (from Shallow Hal, Tropic Thunder and Kungfu Panda) and Michael Cera (who played Nick in Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist). After being banished from their homeland, neanderthals Zed and Oh embark on a journey through their ancient world. Along the way, they encounter Adam and Eve (played by Harold Ramis and Rhoda Griffis), Cain and Abel (played by David Cross and Paul Rudd) and Abraham (played by Hank Azaria). This movie has a likeness to Monty Python's Life of Brian as Zed (played by Jack Black) is looking for some kind of meaning for his life. Clips for this film were shown during the Super Bowl XLIII. Well worth watching !

Dissapointing

A Customer from Edinburgh, 4th July, 2009

Was really looking forward to seeing this but didn't find it very funny at all. The plot drags on in parts and is just silly in parts. Watch something that is actually funny instead...

So Painful!

HelO from , 28th June, 2009

I was so looking forward to this film when I went to the cinema. I normally love Jack Black films, but this was so painfully crass and so unfunny. The lack of continuity during the scene was entertaining though (watch Jack's hair parting). Definitely not one I'll be renting.

Better Than Monty Python's 'Life Of Brian'

Katrina from , 27th June, 2009

In comparison to the 'Life Of Brian' which I found relatively dull, 'Year One' was a pleasant surprise. Plenty of laughs (however be warned, most of them cringeworthy!), the story follows two cavemen who belong to the group of hunters/gatherers. When Jack Black's character is banished from the village for eating an apple from the 'Forbidden Tree Of Knowledge', both him and his friend (Michael Cera) set off on an epic journey through the evolving ancient world, meeting plenty of biblical characters along the way...

a bit dissapointed

villafan90 from , 20th March, 2010

as much as jack black is funny.and michael cera is good when it comes to the one tone lines he gives. this film sadly falls short of what both of them can do in a film. the funny bit of it all is probly the outtakes. but if u are a big fan of them then do watch this film

Truly Awful

Navin from , 17th March, 2010

The half a star I've given this is due to the fact I can't give it no stars. Three of us were watching this & after 15 minutes we realised not one of us had laughed yet, and we all love a comedy. Needless to say, we turned it off. Terrible.

Kids loved it, the one liners were funny. You need to be in the mood for silly humour to enjoy this movie
