Brennan Huff, a sporadically employed thirty-nine-year-old, lives with his mother, Nancy. Dale Doback, a terminally unemployed forty-year-old lives with his father, Robert. When Robert and Nancy marry and move in together, Brennan and Dale are forced to live with each other as step brothers. As their narcissism and downright aggressive laziness threaten to tear the family apart, these two middle-aged, immature, overgrown boys will orchestrate an insane, elaborate plan to bring their parents back together. To pull it off, they must form an unlikely bond that maybe, just maybe, will finally get them out of the house.

Danger!

Ray Miller from Free Swindon, 5th September, 2008

At the risk of your sanity DO NOT watch this film. 95 minutes of my life I will never get back. I am a Ferrell fan but this is by far the worst thing he has done. Two grown men acting as teenagers while their doting parents look on. That's it! For over one and a half very long hours. Oh yes, at the end they suddenly get sensible and successful. Gosh.....not at all predictable then.
Several people walked out. I wish I had.

A Moral Centre Needed

vidmonster from from Glasgow, 30th August, 2008

Step-Brothers is an original movie starring two of hollywoods best actors. Will Ferrel and John C. Reilly revel in their roles of playing 40-year olds who are still big babies. Thefilm granted is not original its just highlighting the issue of single maladjusted guys who are staying at home but with a more in your face attitude. The humour is very peurile, and at times gross, and the conclusions this film amkes is just ridiculous. The performances are good, and distract from a fairlly poor script Overall it will make you laugh, but the lack of any moral centre to this movie does injustice to the humour that the actors bring to the screen.

Awful

This is one of the most awful films I have seen in a long time. Absolutely pointless story. Do not waste your life watching this nonsense!

I thought this film was going to be a laugh. The idea of the film seemed original enough. But I felt it was a waste of 2 hours of my life. Not sure I laughed out loud once...Maybe I just did not get it

Ferrel and C.Reily at their best

Narmakian from , 8th March, 2010

From the moment this film kicks off you know it's going to be funny. Will Ferrel is Brennan Huff and John C. Reily is Dale Doback both are two middle age guys who still live at home with there now single parents Nancy (Ferrels Mum) and Robert ( C. Reilys Father). They're parents meet and fall in love and marry. Brennan and his mother move into Robert's and Dale's home and thats when the mayhem begins. With scenes that had me litteraly pissing my pance with laughter this is a peice of comedy genious with some fantastic lines and performances that are typical of the two lead actors. All in all a very funny movie that will have your sides splitting in no time..

Superb - it just makes you laugh

BarnsleyFan from , 3rd March, 2010

I have to say that I really enjoyed this movie. It is harmless slapstick fun that is silly and hilarious. I have seen so many 'comedies' of late that have been a let down - but this just kept me laughing. The characters are all larger than life parodies of the kind of people you think exist (even if you haven't met them first hand). The two central characters are pretty much identical (give or take) but the way that Ferrell and Reilly make that work is incredibly funny because they despise and admire each other to such an extent. We've all heard about the twenty-somethings still living off mum and dad, well these guys are pretty much double that. The character of 'Derek' is basically the biggest a-hole on the face of the planet - his wife is oppressed, his children are horrific and precocious, he is a corporate moron full of the macho blue chip jargon driving the token 4x4 BMW. It is hilariously played up by Adam Scott, and the supporting 'corporate' characters that work around him are brilliant. The Catalina Wine Mixer concept is just genius. 'I'm breaking necks and cashing cheques bro!' There are so many great throw away lines in this movie that just double you up in laughter. It's superb. They come thick and fast too, so at times it really hurts. You can see how the movie is going to pan out pretty much - but that's never really the point. It does a great job of sending itself up and never takes itself too seriously really. It always feels like you're in on the pantomime. The great thing about it is that the stupidity of some of the characters is just so profound that you wouldn't expect it. The biggest bonus of this movie is the extra features - which are superb. There is a lot of extra material here which is equally funny. The stuff that has been left on the cutting room floor is comedy gold and they have added them for you to view. There are also a number of out-takes and a 'making of' feature which are also very very funny. The 'Catalina Heart Attack' excerpt is superb, the 'Hulk Hands' excerpt is genius. I can't quite give it five stars because I think that rating really belongs to something unique and ground breaking - this is a spoof movie that just delivers a particular format brilliantly, so really, you have to watch it.

One of the stupidest, most immature, puerile things I have ever seen. And I laughed out loud all the way through. Turn your brain off, pretend you're 11, and you'll love it.
