Strangely oldfashioned

A Customer from Frodsham, 4th March, 2010

I saw this in the US recently. It started well but was slow paced. The plot line is ridiculous, which is not necessarily a problem if you can be persuaded to keep your disbelief out of the way. However by the end I felt as though I'd watched a 60s Hammer Horror film, only with rather good camera work.

Not good

Angelika24 from , 7th March, 2010

ok ive seen this film, the way the adverts made this out to be like a horror its anything but!! its very predictable, you know whats going to happen at the end. its so strung out it gets abit boring. it has a nice little twist at the very end and i mean the very end but other than that i really wouldnt recomend it. martin scorsese normally great but this has very much disappointed me. leo played the role very well, good cast but just didnt do anything for me. far to predictable as i said if you go see it i know your going to feel the same way i do,wait til its out for rent dont waste your money on cinema tickets!

Island of the Doomed

wrightman from , 16th March, 2010

Don't go to Shutter Island or you will never get off. If you go to the film you will be kept in the cinema for a long time but luckily you can escape at the end. The film starts well with lots of atmosphere as the 2 Marshalls are heading to the island to investigate the disappearence of a patient. But nothing is what it seems. There are all the usual horror scenarios, lashing rain, storms, graveyards, trapped in the crypt, lighthouses, gloomy prisons, power down, sinister doctors and nurses, crazy inmates, deafening music indicating doom. However,it does not grip as much as it should and loses its way. It begins to get slightly tedious and when the big surprise comes it is expected anyway. There are some terrible scenes from the second world war and of child murders by a lake. Not exactly a fun voyage!

What a twist in the tail!

lizward from , 15th March, 2010

Edge of the seat thriller, brilliantly done, atmospheric and totally convincing. And a stunning twist at the end which leaves you wondering, until the very last minute, what the truth really is.

Not a horror....!

frags from , 15th March, 2010

I don't normally go to see horrors, but because 1) I'd seen the trailer for this so many times over the last few months and 2) the cast mainly kingsley and Leo - I just thought I'd have to seen this film. It turned out not to be a horror at all.....I thought fine, that's cool. But sadly that this film has been hyped so much, it just didn't live up to it. There were some interesting bits, especially when he gets to the lighthouse, to discover.....he he. Worth watching, but try not to have high expectations.

A Proper Head Twister

Sezzle from , 14th March, 2010

Wow this was pretty powerful stuff, its still floating round my head making more sense all the time. Parts seem a little contrived at first and there seems a little too much explaining but it all becomes clear as the plot twists and turns and the shock ending leaves you realling in the cinema aisle and wanting to watch it all again just to make sure.
