superb............................

williamsgwynfa from , 26th September, 2009

this film is superb and is voiced by Bill Hader and Anna Faris. Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs is inspired by Ron and Judi Barrett's beloved children's book of the same name. The movie follows inventor Flint Lockwood (the voice of Bill Hader) and brainy weathergirl Sam Sparks (the voice of Anna Faris from The House Bunny and My Super X Girlfriend) as they attempt to discover why the rain in their small town has stopped while food is falling in its place. Meanwhile, lifelong bully Brent (the voice of Adam Samberg) relishes in tormenting Flint just as he did when they were kids, and Mayor Shelbourne (the voice of Bruce Campbell from Xena) schemes to use Flint's latest invention - a device designed to improve everyone's lives for his own personal gain. Mr. T. from The A Team voices by-the-book cop Earl Devereaux, and James Caan voices Flint's technophobe father called Tim. Well worth watching !!!!

Unexpected Pleasure!

Cloughie from , 27th September, 2009

My son had his Birthday Party at the Savoy Cinema in Nottingham yesterday. 30 kids and 5 adults watched 'Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs'. I was expecting your average animated stuff, but found myself (and the kids and all of the adults) Laughing out loud to this great film. Loads of references to other films (Aliens, Armageddon, Fifth Element, Terminator - heart rip out scene) make this film work for all ages. Listen carefully to the Steve (the monkey) dialogue 'cos this had everyone laughing. The Savoy was brilliant if you are looking to book a kids party! http://www.savoycinemas.co.uk/notts.html Private screening and Party Room, friendly staff (we even had a look in the projection room, WOW! great machinery and an enthusiastic projectionist who answered all the questions! You just don't realise how complex the process is!). Recommended film and highly recommended cinema (£110 for the party!) proper old fashioned cinema experience. Great day, great cinema, great film! I will never look at Gummi Bears the same way!

An absolutely bananas film

Daniel Pollard from Manchester, England, 5th March, 2010

Adapted from a novel I’ve never heard of, and directed by people I’ve never heard of, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs is an absolutely bananas film that will appeal to both children and adults alike. Most importantly, it has that bit of magic that children really warm to, as well as loveable characters and a story with a strong moral heart. The strong moral messages for children include, being who you want to be, pursuing your dreams and taking people as they are, all of which may sound clichéd, but the story is told in such a weird, strange and scary manner that it never seems hackneyed. There aren’t many children’s films whose influences range from David Lynch’s dark masterpiece Eraserhead, to disaster movies such Independence Day, or children’s films that make statements about junk food, obesity and our throw away culture. It’s just a shame, then, the need to have a conventional big set-piece finale where the story loses its involvement with the characters, disappointing considering the unconventional first two thirds. Overall, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs demonstrates that weird, strange and scary films can be aimed towards kids, and not just adults, rather than the ubiquitous singing and dancing fluffy penguin fare.
