Very Poor

KennyB from from Salisbury, 9th July, 2008

I don't usually take the time to write reviews, but I felt compelled in this case to save other film fans the torture I endured watching this film. First off the reasons I bought this without reading up on it is that I like the actors Jason Statham and Ray Liotta. Add to that another few famous faces (Ron Perlman / Burt Reynolds) and I thought cant go wrong. Secondly I like the genre, fantasy etc. However, if anyone is thinking of renting or even worse buying this film for any of the above reasons then don't. Think a very poorly thought out and cobbled together Lord of the Rings made for TV low budget affair. Try the Xena warrior princess or Hercules series on TV, they are better than this and no doubt made on a fraction of the budget. It seems like they blew the budget on famous faces, so when it came to actually shooting the movie, what you end up with is a disjointed storyline with laughable effects and truly dire directing and acting given the cast. I really wanted to like this film, but instead I felt embarrased watching it. I could go on but I think the point has been clearly made. One final thing is that when watching it, I was reminded of the spoof send up films like scary movie, which if it had been advertised as such, it would have been quite entertaining. As it is I have not felt so down after watching a movie since Fantastic 4 Rise of the Silver Surfer. You have been warned.

Complete Crap

damienholmes from from Haverfordwest, 6th August, 2008

Well from the trailers i thought this may have been a good film, so i thought what the hell, ill give it a chance. When it came i arranged with the mrs, to go over hers and watch it with her parents, make a night out of it and all that. So there we are, sitting there and the film is about to being. As soon as the first scene rolls i instantly get a feeling of embarasement run through me. I could go on and explain why but i dont feel it even deserves that but to sum it up; Overuse of music, poor creature design, good but poorly cast actors, terrible storey line. Again i could go on, but i cant be bothered. Just dont waste your time watching this film.

Pleasing

A Customer from Hull, 27th February, 2010

I've never played the game that this film was based on, and perhaps that may have been a good thing. I found the film to have character, I didn't hate any of the characters, I had no previous experience of this world to judge it harshly, I found it to be a good film. I enjoyed it greatly, I watched it a few times, but I did feel as though I was missing something, perhaps more background information. Overall, I would recommend this film and it is going on my to buy list.

'In The Name Of The King - A Dungeon Siege Tale' (2007)

Adsy from from Reading, UK, 26th February, 2010

The first thing I noticed for this film was that it was done by Uwe Boll - a name to strike fear into the hearts of gamers everywhere. Renowned for taking great video game IPs and reducing them to dribbling wrecks, I was already in the worried section. The film isn't terrible. If you don't dig too deeply into character and plot-line, it's reasonably enjoyable. Statham does what he does best, lots of acrobatic arse-kicking and there is some good character diversity, but no real digging into why things are the way they are, development of settings or other depth which enthralls the viewer. Ray Liotta plays his role well and probably gives the film some bite it didn't have before.

A review makes me re-live it...NOOoOooooo!

K70 from , 8th February, 2010

This was so rubbish, that to write much about it would be hard - because I'd have to re-live it! Unless you are doing a dissertation on which is the worst Jason Statham movie ever, you have little excuse for sitting through over two hours of terrible dialogue and normally good actors being reduced to shadows of their former selves. Pity the Germans, I saw that they get a director's cut,; at 156 minutes, that is some severe karmic payback (for what I wouldn't know!). If you are renting this for a young viewer, expect a call from the NSPCC! Maybe if the kid stole money from his or her tubercular Gran's purse and you wanted to punish them, you could make them watch this.
