From the moment Zia (Patrick Fugit) cuts his wrists he enters a bizarre afterlife where everything is the same, just a little bit worse. A quirky but mundane existence of menial jobs, dingy bars, bad transportation and old jukeboxes, with no sign of redemption and escape.

Determined to recapture the love of his life, Zia embarks on a journey through this absurd purgatory, hitting the road in a rickety station wagon with his newfound friends - the oddly charming Russian rocker (Shea Whigham) and the sexy Ingenue (Shannyn Sossamon) - only to meet up with wonderful Kneller (the multi-talented Tom Waits) who shepherds them through the ultimate version of Utopia.

With unexpected miracles, darkly comic twists and absurdist humor WRISTCUTTERS - A LOVE STORY celebrates how precious and unexpected life and love truly are.

trite cringefest

shaunx from , 10th April, 2008

The film is about a bunch of dead people in some kind of limbo which is really just a road and a desert. One of them trying to find his girlfriend who committed suicide after his death- not much more to it than that. The characters drive around a desert smoking dope to seem hip and rebellious and so on, trying to find her. The dialogue is so clicheed and trite that I wanted to kick the tv within 20 mins. More driving and smoking dope and thats about it. A complete waste of a good idea- a movie about limbo needs a big budget and some creativity. What sounds like an interesting metaphysical journey is just another detour through the land of Formulaica. Avoid unless you are suffering from insomnia.

wristcutters is awesome

ruthruthruth from from Kettering, 6th June, 2008

Well contrary to what everyone else on here seems to think, I believe this to be an amazing film. I watched it three times with three separate people and we all loved it! No, it does not have special effects galore, nor does it have much action. It is however an amazing concept delivered with wit and class. It has an awesome soundtrack including the likes of tom waits and gogol bordello, tom waits has a prominent role in the film. If you like films such as Me and You and everyone We Know or Little Miss Sunshine then you will love this. It is a dark, witty and poignant film which I found very clever and thoroughly enjoyed!

Wristcutters - a romance

verdigristwist from , 11th January, 2010

Excellent, amusing, off the wall, and at last something that wasn't Big, Hollywood, or Blockbuster. I can imagine that the opening sequence would put most people off, but after that there is the ecclectic collection of dead American objects sprinkled over the barren hinterland, (memories of The Living End), the eccentric use of a black hole to tidy your car, and a sound track so bad I must buy it. Sprinkle in a cutsie romance - ah, the redemption of love - and there you have it. Its a love it or hate it film.

EXCELLENT FILM!

Ladynat999 from from Nuneaton, 7th January, 2010

I rented this film not really knowing anything about it, I just thought it sounded interesting. However, it is not only an original and interesting idea but also well acted and astonishingly good. I love the flashbacks showing how each person in 'limbo' died - even though the whole film is set in a 'limbo' that is drab, boring and where nobody smiles, the film is very enjoyable and very funny in places. I loved this film so much that I am going to buy it on DVD, and I WANT the lead actresses hairstyle!

Dull

A Customer from Hillingdon, England, 16th December, 2009

I did not get the point of this film. I could not care less about any of the characters, it was not funny and I could not detect any coherent ideas in it, but that could have been because I kept dozing off.
