no wonder the critics love this

This film was well acted, well shot and a somewhat entertaining crime drama. Unfortunately the lead characters are weak-minded degraded people and the rest of the cast seems to follow their sombre lead resulting in an ultimately depressing and demoralising film - hence my comment about the favourable response of the pretentious film critic community to this film. The signs of what to come where there from the start of the film which opens with a tacky, gratuitous and unerotic sex scene. I normally like crime dramas and thrillers - there is normally an air of adventure and escapism about the whole thing even if the lead characters (the crims normally) are ultimately idiots despite their charisma or the sensationalising of the whole thing This is a more 'down to earth' crime drama. This film reminded me of There Will Be Blood - a very well made gloomy and defeatist film, but then what's the point in that?
