Director: Herbert Ross
Studio: COLUMBIA TRI-STAR HOME VIDEO
Run time: 92 mins
Genres: Comedy
Languages: English
Released: December 02, 2002

Meek, owlish writer Felix (George Segal) and strident, catty prostitute Doris (Barbra Streisand) live in the same apartment building. His incessant typing bothers her; her gentlemen callers bother him. When Felix reports Doris's rowdy activity to their landlord, she gets evicted. The free-spirited Doris then forces her way into Felix's apartment, as well as his heart. The Streisand/Segal pairing makes for classic comedy and heartwarming romance.

Radio Times

Barbra Streisand plays against type, as well as actually letting her co-star, George Segal, get a word in edgeways, in this slick adaptation of Bill Manhoff's Broadway hit. She's an eccentric hooker who moves in with bookish neighbour Segal who had her evicted from her own flat in this Neil Simon-esque comedy. Director Herbert Ross and scriptwriter Buck Henry give the raucous original an extra glow of warmth and Streisand and Segal are so good together you wonder why they never did a sequel.

Halliwell's Film Guide

Wacky, bawdy double act which starts promisingly but outstays its welcome. A solid step forward in permissiveness, with kinky behaviour as well as four-letter words.

Funny that will make everybody laugh

Thander Easton from London, England, 26th April, 2005

Barbra is Doris a would be actress, model and part-time prostitute. The script is peppered with more or less offensive expletives and very 'in' sexual jokes. Barbra's character is street-wise and foul-mouthed, wore revealing outfits. Great comedy. Barbra files.

Feathers and Fur make odd creature

noirpanther from , 12th December, 2007

Streisand and Segal's combine charm and style make this odd pairing work, despite the rather curious premise on which the film is based. Witty, touching, brash and strange in turn, somehow I found it very enjoyable.

Mistakes are inevitable

A Customer from Bath, England, 10th February, 2006

No, no, no, no, no: perhaps in it's day the humour may have been captivating, but for us, the entertainment stopped within twenty minutes. The storyline was lame, the humour appalling and Streisand virtually screamed her way through the lines. We just couldn't persevere and switched off. This should definately have been left in the seventies.

Not all it should be!

Minty from the Midlands, 4th February, 2004

A film about a couple not getting sleep that really will put you to sleep, Streisand (Whats up Doc) is just annoying and the film relies on their acting to make it what it is; and it's ashame because it really isn't.
